I wake up but not fully, and I can not move, and I am struggling so much to keep my eyes open. I don't know what's happening

Alright, this has been happening forever (I have no idea if this is..in anyway a bit common or not..i don't think it is) I'm 17.

I am dreaming, then when something I don't want to deal with is about to or happens in my dream(someone running at me, screaming person, scary stuff) I make myself wake up, or try to...

What happens is I open my eyes, and I am struggling my but off to keep them open because the dream is pulling me back in it (which makes my eyelids shut), I can usually still hear it, sometimes see it, and I am trying so bloody hard to keep my eyes open. I am also unable to move, only my eye lids, but that's really not controlled either (sometimes I break into a sweat when I am struggling to stay awake, or a loss of energy when I finally am awake)

Recently it was so hard to try and keep them open I literally got scared... So I think it's time to ask if someone knows anything about this because I don't know who to ask off the internet.

Also, no one has ever been around me when this happens, I only know about it, other people say that I am dreaming that my eyes are open, I'm not, my somewhat proof is I shut off my lights then hop in bed, not looking at new things I've moved from the the angle my bed it)

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. You will need to consult your primary care physician, who may schedule you for a polysomnogram (sleep test) to rule out sleep disorders and initiate appropriate therapy.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
