Is there a way that I can stop saying another name out loud in my sleep?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Sleep talking or somniloquy, is a sleep disorder and is more common in males and children.  Anyone can experience sleep talking, and it can vary from a few words to complex sentences. This is usually short-lived. But if it is progressive and disturbing sleep, it could be the symptom of other sleep disorders or conditions like anxiety. It would help to follow good sleep hygiene measures like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, avoidance of alcohol, smoking and caffeinated beverages. Maintain warm, comfortable bedroom environment and engage in relaxing activities like a warm bath before bed time. This will promote sleep and prevent sleep talking.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Not that I'm aware of - we don't have control over our subconscious mind and therefore, no control over what we may or may not say in our sleep.

Some people say that when someone talks in their sleep and says someone else's name other than their spouse or significant other, it means that they would really rather be with that person or they are in love with them.  Having lived with a sleep walker/talker for several years, and hearing many, many names being called out in his sleep, I've come to realize that this is not true.  It simply cannot be true - there's no way he would have time nor energy to have all of those different people in his life!!

So relax, joke about it and take it as it is - a random thought, dream or name.
