I dont think but you should better ask a doctor.
Since they contain the drug nicotine, I dont know how they could not have a long term effect. I also think you run the risk of becoming addicted to those just as easily as smoking or chewing, just damaging different organs is all. I would worry about the throat and gums specifically.
I've read about throat cancer occuring, but not too sure about that. They claim they are safe, but not sure for how long.
I think maybe after a year it would be safe to wean yourself off of them by using other candies. Maybe try replacing 2 of your 5 lozenges a day with a cough drop or something...then work your way up to none a day.
You are over the "habit" part of smoking which they claim is the toughest part...the nicotine withdrawl period is 3 days max...the rest, they say, is all habit and all in your head.
Who knows...you've done much better than I...and I'm proud of you for that!
