I AM 29 AND I APPLIED FOR SSD OVER A YEAR AGO AND WAS DENIED. I HAVE SEVERAL HEALTH PROBLEMS FROM CHRONIC PAIN IN MY BACK AND NECK WHERE I HAD CERVICAL AND THORASIC FUSIONS,A CRUSHED PELVIS SO I WALK WITH A LIMP AND I CAN NOT STAY ON MY FEET FOR NO MORE THAN10-15 MINS. I ALSO ONLY HAVE 1 KINDNEY I HAVE MORE INJURIES THAT HAPPENED BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE LISTING ALL OF THEM IT WOULD TAKE ME AWHILE THESE ALL HAPPENNED IN A AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT IN AUGUST OF 2002 MY EX-BOYFRIEND JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL AND SAID IF I CAN'T HAVE U THAN NOBODY WILL SO BASICALLIY HE TRIED TO KILL ME.OH THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENED TO HIM WAS A BROKE WRIST.I ALSO HAVE SARCOIDOSIS,AND A BLADDER DISEASE WHERE THE LINING OF MY BLADDER IS BLEEDING. ANYWAYS MY QUESTION IS AM I ELIGABLE FOR SSD? AND IF SO WHEN I RE-APPLY SHOULD I GET A LAWYER? I LIVE IN TENNESSEE I AM NOT SURE IF SSD BENIFITS ARE DIFFRENT IN EVERY STATE.

Oh wow I'm so sorry to hear that you've gone through so much.  Have you been seeing doctors for your conditions and do you take meds?

Just a few things to remember, SSDI is for disabled people so what you have to do is not focus on what happened or what illnesses you have but HOW MUCH your symptoms inhibit you from being substantially gainfully employeed.  SSI is for aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income.

I would make a list of each health problem; then to the side a list of symptoms then a list of how each and every symptom impacts the ability to do certain things such as your crushed pelvis.

Most likely you were denied because of your age and how much you worked prior to being out of work full time and became disabled.  There's a formula they use for X amount of work credits for a certain number of years; have you gotten a social security statement lately? look on the back to see if it shows if you have the right amount of credits and how much you would get if you became disabled at your age.

You may qualify for SSI if you're not working and your household doesn't make a certain amount yearly.

Also, make sure you keep an up to date accurate list of all meds, then on the side any side effects you have from them.

I would find a local attorney who deals in social security cases as soon as possible.

I've heard that also; I think their reasoning is employers dont want to hire older workers and 50 seems to be the cut off for some reason.

grats on your approval; I just got mine in the mail and waiting on the payment center
