High Blood Pressure

Well, other the a family history of strokes I am wondering if having high blood pressure puts me at risk.  Recent tests on my heart say its fine.  But my blood pressure had been high and recently found out that I have vessel damage behind my eyes due to high blood pressure.  I also have vessel damage on a brain MRI. I am just wondering how high blood pressure is bad if my heart is fine.

Hi again

Yes your blood pressure is high, mainly the diastolic (the 2nd number).

Yes the damage probably is connected.

Please get it treated, or there will be more damage.

Well, the last few times it was checked it was between 122/96 - 140/100. I am pretty sure there is an issue since my eye doctor diagnosed hypertensive retinopathy and my Primary doctor has put me through different tests for my heart which were normal.  But, she says that my pressure was high.   My concern is that I also have been diagnosed with small vessel damage in my brain as well from an MRI.  Just wondering if there is a connection.

Hi

Your heart is not the only determinant of youre blood pressure, especially for high blood pressure.  So just because your heart is fine, doesn't mean you can't/won't have a stroke.

You already have damage due to hypertension, so please get it treated.

My stroke was caused by vessel spasm due to hypertension.  My heart is fine too.

You cannot tell how high your blood pressure is, it needs to be checked.
