Too early to go home?

My father had a stroke Nov 5th.  He's about 90% paralized on his left side.  He weighs over 350 pounds and cannot get up or down by himself.  He can only shuffle with a walker - if someone can physically pick him up into a vertical position.  He can't get into or out of bed or even roll over without help.  He can't take care of his personal hygiene needs, either.

Tomorrow we have a meeting with the staff and therapists at the Rehab facility where he's been since he got out of the hospital on Nov 9th.  This Thursday is the end of the 21 days that his insurance gives partial coverage.  We've heard from others that the facility will push for us to take him home.  My mom is unable to care for him.  They live really far in the country where in home help is hard to find.  Besides - it would take more than one person to lift him.

What will happen?  What will we do?  Dad wants to go home - but Mom won't be able to handle him.  We're very scared and feel like we're walking forward into a very dark place.  I would appreciate any words of wisdom, encouragement or advice.

Thank you!!

My mother had a stroke on 10/29.  She is immobile and will not eat (has no trouble swallowing-just won't eat).  We had our meeting today with the folks at the Rehab facility reference to the 21 day insurance coverage issue.  She is 87 and there is no way that we can physically care for her at home.  We had the option of moving her into "long term" care, which would continue to include rehabilitation and once her money runs out, we will make application for medicaid.  It is really sad to think that our parent(s) work all their life and then get to the point that we have to ask for assistance just to make them comfortable.  There is also some "new law" coming into affect January 1 that you need to check on which affects long term/rehab center care.  It was to our advantage to get her in a long term care facility prior to January 1st.  It was just such an emotional meeting today I can't remember the details but will post once I have the meeting with the social worker at the facility.
My prayers and sincere thoughts are with you.  It is so hard to see my Mother not be able to care for herself and see her become weaker and weaker.  Breaks my heart.  I am sure you are experiencing the same feelings as well.  Patricia in North Carolina
