Don't lissten to negative talkers! I'm 58, had a stroke (see old forum post by Choobie) and am STILL recovering in small ways. Everyone thinks I'm fully recovered, but I still don't have all the feeling in my left foot/ parts of lower leg and will NEVER give up. I still do tons of physical and mental therapy/exercises and I have friends still improving after 6+ years. I strongly recommend reading Jill Bolt Taylor's book, MY STROKE OF INSIGHT.  She was a brain scientist working for Harvard and has written an incredibly educational and inspirational account of her journey. Through walking with hand weights and other things, she finally recovered walking with a normal rhythm 8 YEARS AFTER HER HORRIFIC STROKE. God bless your Mom and you - go, go, GO!! Choob (aka Splash, back to swimming 2300 - 2500 yds. 5 days a week in under an hour, praise God!

It is early days. With physical therapy she may continue recovering for a year.
