stroke outcome

My 84 year old father had a second stroke about 10 weeks ago. He cannot move his left arm and leg, has lost his speech and cannot swallow. He was given the wrong feed in the PEG tube and got severe diarrhea (he has gluten intolerance). He became dehydrated and his blood got too thin due to coumadin. He has atrial fib. Now he is on another feed which seems to suit him better. My question is what is the prognosis for a patient in his condition? He has about 70 more days left for skilled nursing facility. He has not made any real progress regarding the swallowing, speech, or movement. He is basically bed-ridden and unresponsive. I don't know what will happen. I pray for his recovery. He was such an independent man and now he is helpless.

Thanks for your support and prayers. I will pray for your dear father and wish him all the best.
Yesterday, my sister came to visit my dad and he doesn't even know that she is there. He seems to know that I am there but not my sister.  Could he be detaching from the family or could it be selective amnesia? It is so hard to know when there is no real communication.
It is frustrating and very sad when our parent is helpless and we can't help them get better fast.
It is all in God's hands.
Please try showing your dad favorite photos and listening to favorite music. It may help.
Take care,

I'm going through this with my 70 year old father. Its heartbreaking. He is not quite bed ridden but is completely helpless. He cannot use the toilet, eat by himself, speak coherently and worst of all doesn't recognise his family.

I will include your dad in my prayers. Keep the faith
