43 and ttc no af since chemical on nov 3rd 2012, always had 28 day cycle

Hello everyone, Any advise or comments appreciated.I am a normal 28 days usually i am right on time give or take a day maybe. I had a chemical pregnancy onSept 26th and then again November 3rd 2012. I bled for 6 days like a regular period afterwards but then after the Nov 3rd chemical I have not gotten my period. On Dec 16th I had a tiny bit of light pink spotting only when i wiped and then on the 17th a tiny bit of brown only when i wiped and nothing after that. On dec 21st 2012 I tested with a first response and got an almost unnoticible line. then tested every other day and the slight line would still be there(i never had a line before when i am not pregnant). I tested for about 2 weeks and still had the slight line and stopped testing and made an appointment with my doctor. I saw my doctor on the 11th and she did a blood test and it came back neg. She was going to prescribe provera to start af but the lab accidentally tested my levels when they did my blood pregnancy test and my doctor just referred me to the fertility clinic saying my levels were a little high. She never answered me about the faint line I had on my hpts. She just said it looks like I may need a little help getting pregnant according to my numbers. (I thought the numbers would not be correct if not tested on the 3rd day of your period and on cd21). I tested twice jan 28th an hpt showed negative (stark white no more faint line). I am scheduled to go in to speak with the fertility specialist on Feb 28 2013. Can anyone explain this? Anyone had this happen. I have not had af since nov 3rd 2012. I ask again and again at my doctors office but it seems that the answer to my question is always avoided and end up talking about something else. (i will ask the fertility doc tho). I just find it strange. this has never happened to me before.

If I were you, I would have your thyroid checked. Your TSH level needs to be as close as possible to 1.0. It definitely must be under 2.0 when TTC. If you're over 2.0, make sure your dr treats you with a low dose of NatureThroid or Armour Thyroid. Two most important things to always remember: 1.) If you're TSH is higher than 2.0 and your dr says not to worry because it's normal (and they even show you that the lab range is 0.5-5.0 and you're in the middle of that), go find another dr. And 2.) when you do find a doc who is willing to treat you, do not let them give you just Synthroid or Levoxyl or Levothyroxine. Those are T4 only meds. You need T3 and T4. The only compromise would be Synthroid and Cytomel together. That gives you both T3 and T4. But the best thing is NatureThroid or Armour Thyroid.

I had all the same symptoms as you after my first early m/c and it turned out I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. If you can get them to test you for that, that would be good too. And if they can check your Free T3 and Free T4 levels, that can be really helpful. But at a minimum get your TSH checked and make sure it's as close as possible to 1.0. I have given this advice to several women on this site who were then able to be successful. Good luck!

Hello Stacey,

thank you for commenting. I guess I am just frustrated as the first time I went in to the fertility clinic they said it didnt look too bad and this time they said I would be unable to conceive but can still carry a child.  Then didnt really take time to talk to me about what was going on. This is a new doc for mye as my doctor passed away. I dont find myself comfortable with this office but there was not other choice as this is where my insurance sent me. And when the doctor rushed out I felt like I was taking up his time.

I understand what you said about the apples/eggs. I just needed to clarify the hormone issue and would have liked to know what was going on . (numbers/levels and so forth) We have asked for a copy of the results and get a better explanation later with my other doctor

We would really like one more but donor eggs are not a choice for us.
Thank you again for your post.  :)

they way to look at is as if there were a huge pile of apples ( your eggs)  in a basket the top ones are blemish free, as you go down through the basket (age) the apples are still there but have bruises on them, thats sort of what happens to your eggs, you still have them although not many and most (but not all ) will have blemishes eg, chromosomal problems and will not form properly, some of them may fertalise but many that do will not implant and those that do, usually end in early miscarriage.... in saying that you will always find a good egg amongst them, its just a case of finding it, its really up to you what you do know, you can continur on trying or after some thinking maybe move onto donor eggs.. there are alot of women who manage to get pregnant, but unfortunately it ends in miscarriage and a few who manage to get pregnant and get their baby, it really is a personal choice now for you and your husband to make, good luck  :)

Hello, Went in because af had not appeared since nov 2,2012. they did an ultrasound and took blood two weeks ago. Doc said lining looked good and that one ovary had a few folicles and what loooked to be like a corpus lutem cyst. they told me to come back when af started as the ultrasound showed that it may start soon. I went back today 3/14 (af started march 9th). they did another ultrasound because they said they wanted to keep an eye on the cyst. the docs said it seemed to be getting smaller and it would go away with time. They also said they got my bloods back and said my hormones were kind of high. And since there are not many folicles they cannot offer ivf and that they do not think their medications would help me conceive.  Then mentioned that it seems I might be in premenopause. They said that they could offer was donor eggs and that I would be able to have a child that way. and use my husbands sperm but would not offer any meds as it would be useless. My husband and I asked if it was possible to conceive on our own and we were told that the chances were slim to none. Then we asked if i was ovulating and the doc says that I may have ovulated prior to my cycle starting and I can ovulate in the future. What kind of answer is that????  Then we asked if we continued to try would we have a chance of being successful on our own. She said yes but the chances are slim. They did not go over my numbers from the blood test. Nor did they show me what they were looking at in the ultrasound, nor did they go into detail and explain how they came about the answers they gave us. After a asking again if i was ovulating or not she was quiet for a moment and then said well the eggs would be deformed and no good.
Also, the two doctors that were in the room looking at the ultrasound kept talking to each other where as I could not hear and then when finished they were discussing something (i dont know what but mentioned hormones etc ... couldnt hear well and that one ovary had folicles and the other was very simple) and then one excused himself and they one doctor that was left spoke with me. Which I found out was only a resident. I am frustrated! I had a chemical last october and thought we just had to keep trying. Now this. Does this make sense? Is this how things are handled in a fertility clinic? I have no  answers just a doctor that said I have to use donor eggs. Anyone have any advise? My husband and I were going to request a copy of the results from the blood test which was taken and get someone else to explain to us. I am so tired of doctors. They never mentioned I had bad eggs at any time before and they said there were not many follicles as someone younger but for my age it looked good. Now they just say oh its bad and the only way to have a child is donor eggs. i am truly not understanding this.

So hubby and i went to the fertility clinic.filled out background info etc. and answered all the questions. They did an ultrasound to ck the ovaries etc. They said my lining looked good and thick and that one ovary did not have any follies but the other had a few. (the way the doc said it was it should look like a chocolate chip cookie not a sugar cookie lol) well the left one he said looked like a chocolate chip cookie just not as many chocolate chips. He also stated that I have a corpus lutem cyst which looks to them like I just ovulated and af should start soon (within the next two weeks).I was told to call when I start to bleed (af) so they can have me come in and if af does not start within 3 weeks to call them so i can come in. Then sent me to the labs to get blood drawn. They said if they see a problem with the result of my blood tests they will call me . The doc also said that when I come back in for the follow up they will do another ultrasound to make sure I am not pregnant (seemed a strange comment to me as I thought i couldnt be preg without af) and to check on the corpus lutem cyst. They said they are not sure if it is a normal cyst or something thatneeds to be removed and that they will keep an eye on it. It is about 2cm according to the fertility specialist(i dont know anyting about this subject of the corpus lutem cyst. they just said it is usually there after ovulation). So It is now a waiting game. I asked about the missing periods since november and They asked if I was having hot flashes, mood swings, loss of hair etc and I am having none of those. He said it could be premenopause or moving into menopause because of my age or maybe not but they do not know and cant make any assumptions because they have not gotten any results back yet. All they know for sure is what the ultra sound showed them and that my ovaries show a little premature aging(per the docs words). He had a resident working with him that told me that I might need donor eggs but they will discuss everything with me at my follow up appopintment after all the results come back and they do another ultrasound. I still am not sure whats going on. I forgot to mention to the doc that yesterday and today i I have had slight cramping and breasts are a bit sensitive. Dont know if there is some reason for that either as I have never had any af symptoms before. He also stated since i have always had a 28 day cycle that it may be a sign of premenopause. But then he also stated that menopause just doesnt happen one day. It is gradual and he does not think i am in menopause yet. I hope i get some good news .

Definitely see the fertility doc! Just because you had a chemical doesn't mean you all of a sudden stop ovulating.  Let someone who specializes in reproductive medicine start asking the right questions and give you some answers.

Hello. :). My doc she said she would give me provera??? To start my period if it didn't show and then changed her mind and said if I'm not having a period that means I'm not ovulating so she won't prescribe me anything and that I need to see a specialist and referred me to a fertility doc. I wish I had a good doc.  :(   Seems hard to find nowadays.

I have found a regular GP or OB/Gyn doesn't want to "treat" or advise us older women in ttc. She's probably trying to tell you in a pc way that she just doesn't have the expertise or experience to really help you. Try to find a good RE that you are comfortable with. Hope something works out for you soon.

Thank you sadiegirl69. I am just frustrated. Still no af as of today! :(  I will try posting in the 35+. My doctor now wants to send me to a fertility specialist because af hasnt shown up. But last year when i spoke with my doc she said as long as i am having regular periods every 28 days then just keep trying and there was nothing to worry about.... Seems fickle and utter nonsense as if I were not talking to a doctor at all. Nice to meet you! Lots of luck to you as well!!!!!   :)

Hi. I just saw this post. I can't really help you as I have never had a chemical, nor have I had any blood work done to check any of my levels. I have had 2 mc though, and am ttc at 44 years old. I wanted to welcome you to medhelp. There are ALOT of women on here your age and older ttc. Try posting this question in the pregnancy 35+ forum and the infertility forum. You will probably get alot more responses. This is a great site with tons of supportive women on it. Sometimes it's just a matter of posting in the right spot. Best of luck to you and I hope you stick around.
