Hi I had a tubal reversal at 41 in 2009 I'm now 42. Six months after reversal I had my FSH checked it was 13.9 Dr. said it was good it has to be 10 and up. Dr put me on clomid to speed the process in conceiving. I got pregnant in April of 2010 4 months after but had a miscarriage at 4 weeks. Took clomid for 1 month and decided I'm not taking it anymore with the numbers I felt I don't need it after my miscarrige. I pray that I can still conceive naturally my cycles are 28 days and luteal phase is 14. With clomid my cycles was messed up.
It's something to be on clomid and have your body fool you with pregnancy symptoms due to the side affects. So no luck for me.
Sticky Baby Dust To You All!!!!!
I'm so nervous about it but I might try it for a couple of rounds. I still haven't heard from my doctor so I don't know anything for sure yet.
bevfly: I hope this is it for you. You're close to me in the TWW but I'm pretty sure I'm out. I have had some heavy spotting the last couple of days so it's not looking good.
jakl726: I think that is good advice to limit yourself and MAKE your doctor listen to you. I think a good doctor should. I say that now, hopefully I can stick to it if it fails. I'd to go maybe 2 rounds. We'll see.
SSBD to all! The things we go thru!
Hi ladies ive just done 3 cycles on 50mg of clomid and im currently 10dpo.I have decided not to take clomid as the side effects made me ill every month and i cant take anymore i need to be normal again.Anyway my doc told me that the max amount clomid should be taken for in a womans lifetime is 6 cycles.Anymore increases the risk of ovarian cancer later in life.No success yet but hoping this month im lucky.I ovulate on my own but have only 1 tube and i was prescribed clomid to increase my egg quality.(as mentioned by jakl726).SSBD ladies Bev XXX
I’m assuming the doctor who wants to put you on clomid is your re and I’m assuming you are having fertility problems.
Like what many mentioned above, clomid increases the quality of the egg, thus increases pg rate. As one doctor stated “clomid creates a greater release of FSH/LH to "feed" the follicles (sac that has the egg), even if you just make one follicle, it will be "healthier and stronger" because of the extra FSH/LH than if clomid was not used which does increase pregnancy rates...”
In my case, b/c I was experiencing ‘unexplained’ infertility, the first line of treatment is clomid (versus if they knew what was causing my infertility my re would have suggested iui or ivf). Also b/c my insurance (and this might be the same for you) has mandated that all patients seeking ivf treatment be put through 3 cycles of clomid before proceeding to ivf. I was 38 when this happened and after one ‘failed’ cycle on clomid, I refused to be placed on additional cycles of clomid. I convinced my re that at my age it doesn’t make sense to waste any more valuable time on clomid and I was willing to challenge my insurance. Thank GOD re listened to my argument and placed me on fast track ivf.
Definitely ask your re why s/he is placing you on clomid especially at your age because time is of essence particularly in this case.
Good luck.
Thanks everyone. I'm supposed to talk to my doctor sometime today. You all have helped me make a list of questions for my doctor which will help me decide. I have been impressed with him up until now and I'm not sure of his choice to put me on Clomid but maybe talking with him will make me feel more confident. I have just not heard of alot of success with this drug so it makes me uneasy to try it and risk messing me up further. Thanks so much for the advice and SSBD to eveyone!
Hi, when I was put on clomid I too was ovulating regularly on my own. I think my dr decided that the clomid course would help the quality of my eggs and it was also a case of 'just doing something'. Unfortunatly I ended up on clomid for six months, with no success. In hindsight I now regard it as a terrible waste of valuable time. I might also suggest that it does seem to thin the lining and also prolonged useage reduces egg white cervical mucus. Definitly clomid has a postitive role to play for some women, but if its not working for you after, say, three courses move quickly on to check out other possibilities. These are just personal opinions and you should check out all the options with your RE/dr.
Sending you lots of baby dust.

This cycle was my first Clomid cycle, so I can't say anything about outcome or success yet, I am still waiting in the TWW. I took it because I used to ovulate pretty early, and the clomid is supposed to help delay ovulation and help mature the egg properly. It seems to have helped, as I ovulated on CD 16. I once ovulated on CD8 and that cycle was only 22 days. I'm hoping the clomid works, if not, I think I will try it for another month or two, and then stop. I hear it can thin the uterine lining, and I don't want that. My other concern is that I have been trying to read as much as I can about it and I seem to find A LOT of women who have gotten pregnant on Clomid ended up miscarrying. I don't know what the actual statistics are but it just scared me a little because it seemed so common. I'm hoping and praying it works! Won't know for another week or so. SSBD!

I too was taking Clomid. After the 4 round I got pregnant. I was taking 4,000 Vita D, Maca root prenatal with dhea baby asprin and drinking raspberry leaf tea. I lost my baby at 6 weeks.
I was ovulating perfectly too, got pregnant in Dec but miscarried at 8 weeks. Tried for 4 months with no success, then used clomid. I am now 18 weeks pregnant with twin boys.
Clomid worked perfectly for me. I also took dhea and made sure my TSH ( thyroid stimulating hormone) was at 1. Good luck.
