Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, there's another forum called Fertile Thoughts. On the Member Created Forums there is a board called Natural/Mini-ivf. I've joined and have really enjoyed it. Most of the people who participate go to New Hope! They are very welcoming and it's nice to talk with someone who's going through the same thing. Just google Fertile Thoughts and look under Forums. Hope to see you there!

Hi Melanie,
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I haven't experienced it but I'm sure it's in my future, at least a very good chance for it. I know it must be devastating and my heart goes out to you. But I have to say, your response was excellent!!!! I think you have a really awesome chance for success. Please, please, please keep in touch, I can't wait to hear how you progress. I'm especially impressed that 3 embies made it to blast. I have 3 2-days frozen. Last cycle we tried for a blast with 2 embies and neither made it. You must have great quality eggs! You go girl!!!
Many hugs and all the best.

HI Jupiter,
I did my mini ivf, it was almost like my Ivf...lol I got 11 follies and 3 made it to blast, I transferred 2 blasts and I was/am pregnant but my betas failed to double and I am waiting to miscarry. All my hpt's are brighter and brighter as the days go by. I stopped my meds last Wed. not sure how long it will take to get AF and miscarry, they sometimes don't really inform us much about things. If I don't get AF in a week I'm gonna ask my gyno to give me another beta. I hate those tests. I have had 3 kids and as soon as I poas and it was positive i was pg. none of this stressful beta stuff. a positive is a positive so i thought and a chemical usually happens before a missed pd well I am a week late already. this is so very hard.
When will you be transfering? How many embies have you collected? I have one left, I might just use the 2 more cycles to try for some more embies, I shall see. It's a bit stressful to remote monitor. Hotels in nyc are so expensive and they always want me there at 7 am and I live 4 hours away without traffic...lol Its so worth it!
Hugs and ssbd,
Melanie

Hi Plumber, I'm 47 years old and am currently with New Hope and using the mini-ivf protocol. I haven't had any transfers yet so obviously I can't talk about a bfp, but I've been doing mini-ivf since Jan. and reading everything I can get my hands on (as well as bugging my doctor for info). I'm probably repeating some stuff you already know.

My opinion of mini-ivf:
There are, of course, advantages and disadvantages. Below is a short description of mini-ivf and then just some stuff you need to know. The following list is not in any sort of order.

Mini-ivf is based on the premise than you only need one good egg to get pregnant. Where conventional ivf goes after many eggs in one cycle, mini-ivf goes after fewer eggs (3-5 per cycle) over the course of possibly multiple cycles. If you get 3 eggs per cycle, after 3 cycles you would have 9 embryos, assuming they all fertilized.

1. Mini-ivf has the potential to be cheaper than conventional ivf. I say 'potential' because if you have to go through enough mini-ivf cycles before you're successful, it could end up costing just as much as conventional. However, if you're successful early on, or even not so early on, the cost savings are considerable.
2. Mini-ivf is much easier on the body. You use a lot less medication than with conventional, which is also a cost savings $400-$800 instead of $2000-$5000. One typical mini-ivf cycle uses birth control pills for 10 days to quiet your ovaries. This helps prevent a dominant follicle from developing. Then on cycle day 3 begin daily doses of 50 mg clomid, and possibly 1-3 injections of Menopur, one shot every other day. Then a trigger to make you ovulate. This trigger makes ovulation very predictable, so, although missed ovulation can occur, it makes it much less likely.
3. Mini-ivf uses clomid which a lot of women think is bad, especially if you're older. I believe this isn't true although, as with any medication, some will respond badly. The real issue with clomid is it thins your lining, making a fresh transfer iffy. Your lining is checked during the monitoring and if it's ok, you can have a fresh transfer, if not, your embryos get frozen. New Hope's website has a really good write-up on this topic under FAQ.
4. Mini-ivf goes after the best quality eggs your body has to offer, the one you would have ovulated that month anyway, and hopefully 2-4 others. The theory is that these are probably your best eggs. Conventional, because of the high stims, can 'fry' some of your eggs, so that although you get a lot of them, a lot of them could be damaged (but not necessarily.
5. For us older girls, sometimes no matter how much we stim, we  might only get 1-5 eggs anyway. This, I believe, is the big advantage to mini-ivf for older women. Why pay for conventional (even if you can find someone who will do it for you) if your only going to get a few eggs anyway? Might as well do mini and save some money and stress on your body.

Hope this helps. I see the date is from several months ago, so I hope I haven't just wasted your time. A friend recommended this site and I've just joined so I haven't looked around much yet.

A lot of people have problems with New Hope but I'm ok with them. I've learned how to circumnavigate the system (to a point) so I've gotten to the point where I enjoy working with them.

Wishing you the best and hope your dreams come true!
