standard blood test

Last week my 16yr old daughter had to go to Urgent Care for a bladder infection. The health care provider said they would do blood work, urine test. But she asked my daughter if she was sexually active..the answer NO...I am fully aware of what my teen does...she virtual schools and is involved in a teen library board.,with get togethers that are supervised. She does not hang out with friends ,ever...my question is after telling the nurse practitioner the answer was NO not sexually active she claimed it was standard procedure to do a pregnancy test any way...I could see the look on my daughters face as well as my shock this would be forced upon us...is this Standard and why?????

Bladder infections are not ALWAYS due to sex. However, in this day and age it does appear to be standard practice to ask about sexual activity once the girl is having menstrual periods. And I have heard of some doing a pregnancy test but I don't feel they should force that on them if they say they're not. Unfortunately, this shows the times we live in.

I'm no professional but Bladder Infections (especially UTIs) are due to sex. Even though you did say that you're daughter is not sexually active, the doctors still want to make sure before they put her on any kind of medicine. Hopefully this helps in a way. Take care.
