I want to have my friends back...

I'm 18 years old. I am anti-social, I rather stay at home than go out maybe because of my low self-confidence. When i was younger, it was not a problem but now... I feel lonely, and staying at home almost whole day gave me a food disorder. I even don't meet with my old friends anymore. I am making excuses just not to meet up with them. But, I want to socialize with them again, make more bond and meet new friends. I'm struggling in eating healthily and working out now to gain my self confidence. My question is, what should be my first move to increase my social life? I want to be happy again.

I am doing a research project on adolescent and I believe that a good first step for you would be to tell people how you are feeling, talk to your old friends about it, your parents, a teacher or guidance counselor.

The first move to increasing social life, would be your confidence. Gain it first. Your next step would be, meeting these people and talking about recent events in your life. Ask about their lives as well. Comment on events they mention. A strait forward meet up isn't always the best, so call them, video chat, or IM. Those options work as well.
