Smoking While Pregnant

I was wondering if smoking weed while pregnant could have any effect on the baby? & what kind of effects if there are any. I myself am not pregnant, but one of my best friend's is and she is saying that there would be no harm done to the baby.

That's probably not why...that isn't a known effect.  Marijuana use in pregnancy is linked to anxiety and attention problems, and any smoking poses a risk of low birth weight, miscarriage, and low IQ.

yes smoking pot can definitely harm the unborn baby. i know of a baby born without a foot because the mother smoked pot while pregnant. I, too agree that if she thinks this kind of activity is acceptable while pregnant then maybe she should consider giving the baby up to someone who'd actually love it.

My mom actually works in a field that deals with these situations all the time.... YES it's harmful!! If you look at children that suffered from parents doing drugs while prego they are "different" if they dont have visible diformaties they will sometimes have non visible diformaties such as problems focusing, temper outbursts, etc
What it comes down to is that she needs to think.....she's inhaling a drug that not only puts toxins into her body but it messes her up mentally....she's loosing brain cells with every puff and going into a state of "not all there" and the poor baby's brain and body is just developing! This baby has no say! Come on! This **** pisses me off! Smoking is horrible enough as it is! A drug?! How can it not be harmful to a growing child inside you...it destroys all your internal organs from the toxins so how can that not hurt the baby......she may as well just blow it in the baby's face when it comes out too!

yes it WILL have an effect on her baby if she is not mature enough to stop smoking weed then she should not be bring a child into the world!
it will cross the babys placenta and enter the babys blood stream, this can increase the risk of miscarrage, placental abruption, premature delivery, growth restriction and also still birth. After birth the baby will be at high risk from cot death! and will have withdrawal symtoms and possabal brain damage, the baby will be hard work as it will be craving the drug, also they baby could and should be taken away form your "friend" as she would be in no fit state to look after a baby while she is off her head! what sort of life would that baby have not a very good one!! and if she loved the child at all she would stop! lots of people cant have babys and some people dont deserve babys she is one of them, if i where you i would call the dr and get her some help!

It has been shown that women who smoke are more likely to have children who with low birth weight and often have breathing problems. My daughter smoked only 3 cigarettes a day when she was pregnant with her son and he was born with asthma and needed nebulizer treatments on a regular basis when he was very young. He's seven now and has grown out of the worst of it, but yes, smoking has been proven to affect the fetus. Smoking marijuanna hasn't been tested but as it has considerably more toxins and is quite likely to have pesticides and other man-made toxins (since the production of marijuanna is unregulated growers can and do put anything on the growing plants they want) I would be frightened to use anything like it while pregnant. It sounds like your friend isn't very concerned for the welfare of her unborn child. Have you talked to her about the possibly of adopting it out after it's born?
