For TMJDoc...can you help?

Hi TMJDoc,
I have had severe pain in the right side of m face for 7 months now and the pain is getting worse by the day. I have seen dental surgeons, prosthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, nuerologists, physiotherapists and many GP's but not one has found a diagnoses yet.
Last year i had the 38 and 48 removed surgically, both which were mesioanguarly impacted with incomplete root formation. Between the surgery and when the pain began, there was a 13 month difference.
I have had X-rays, CT scans and MRI's whichhave shown up nothing. I have also had arthrocentesis performed on the right side, but the pain still continues. I also must take at least 80mg of oxycodone daily, among other medication.

Do you have any ideas??

Thanking you,
Brooke

My Australian geography is poor--guess I need to visit to become more familiar.  Check the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain website.  We have a lot of members in Australia.  You should be able to find one reasonably close to you.  ICCMO has a lot of members there as well.  But you'll need someone with experience for you situation.  TMJDoc

Brooke,  There are so many things that can be going on.  We aren't going to get this one figured out online.  But severe pain can be from muscles, TMJ (if you've had arthrocentesis that should have helped), neuropathic, neurovascular, nerve impingement/entrapment, and  much more.  You will need an orofacial/craniofacial pain specialist to make a differential diagnosis (sorry about the technical terms, don't know what else to call it).  This should involve a careful review of your symptom history, location, duration, frequency of pain, nature/quality of the pain.  Should be a cranial nerve exam, physical/palpation exam.  Sounds like you've had enough imaging studies already, but the Dr will want to review.  Possibly diagnostic local anesthetic injections. Doesn't sound like an easy one to figure out.  I'll check to see if I have some contacts near you.  TMJDoc
