severe gum pain

My grandma is 95 years old and having extreme pain in her gums. I brought her to the dentist and he said there is nothing he can do for her. He said that she is old and that's what happens. I'm trying to find something to relieve her pain. I've tried Orajel, ice, telling her not to eat salty foods (she likes pretzels) but nothing is helping. I know this is bad because she is not the type to complain. I just want to ease her pain.

Hi Linda. Yes, she does wear dentures. I'll pick up some biotene today and see if that helps. Thank you.

Try some biotene mouth spray, maybe the extra moisture will help the gums heal a bit.  Does she wear dentures?
