Ultrasounds are pretty reliable with testicular lumps. If the lump appeared to be a solid mass on the ultrasound then this is standard procedure for what the doctor may feel is a cancerous lump. You really need to ask your doctor if this is what they are thinking. A second opinion is always a good idea but if this did turn out to be cancerous then getting it out asap is vital. Talk to your doctor. Was your correction surgery for an undescended testicle? This could put you at a higher risk for testicular cancer. Please go to ********.com the forums there will be a great help for any questions you have.
Hi Jack,
I'm going to give you some of my thoughts and then have your post transferred over to the Urology Forum (this is the Urogynecology Forum for pelvic organ prolapse).
First of all there are many causes of lumps in testicles. If you have concerns with either the physician or with how "quickly" he jumped onto the surgery page, I'd say get a second opinion. Often there are nurse hotlines available at local hospitals, you might try calling one to see what advice they give you. Have you discussed this with your primary care physician prior to seeing the Urologist?
Here are some possible causes of a painful testicle include:
A cyst-like lump in the scrotum that contains fluid and dead sperm cells (spermatocele)
Epididymitis
Infection of the scrotal sac
Injury or trauma
Mumps
Orchitis (testicular infection)
Testicular torsion
Testicular cancer
Varicocele
Possible causes if the testicle is not painful:
Hydrocele
Loop of bowel from a hernia
Spermatocele
Testicular cancer
Varicocele
You see there are many possiblities here. Here are some questions that you should be asked by a Urologist during an exam of this type-
When did you notice the lump?
Have you had any previous lumps?
Do you have any pain?
Does the lump change in size?
Is only one testicle involved?
Exactly where on the testicle is the lump?
Have you had any recent injuries or infections?
What other symptoms do you have?
Is there scrotal swelling?
Do you have abdominal pain?
Do you have any lumps or swelling anywhere else?
Have you ever had surgery on your testicles or in the area?
Were you born with both testicles in the scrotum?
If none of these questions were addressed, I'd say get a second opinion for sure.
Good luck Jack, I hope you find the info you need! I'll have administration transfer your post to Urology, hopefully you can get more info there.
