i123 scan/tumors

my gyne said i had an enlarged thyroid and sent me for ultrasound, and pcp is testing my thyroid through blood (no results just yet) anmyway- the sonogram came back with lots of stuff wriiten on it, nodules that were exophatic, bolobed and HETEROGENEOUS amoung other things...and radiology report said a needle aspiration should be done BUT my PCP is sending me for this i123 scan instead/first?  does this scan test for cancer?

I-123 scanning is not necessary based on what you describe.
This is likely Hashimoto's with normal thyroid function -- would test TPO antibody to confirm.  Then, find an endocrinologist who can do ultrasound in his/her office to determine if any area requires biopsy.

thank you. I am thinking to just keep my apptment for the scan, but in the meantime make an appointment with an endo and go pick up and bring all my results with me.

my thyroid blood tests came back normal.
