Low iodine diet necessary for RAI?

I'm wondering if it is necessary to follow a two week low iodine diet before RAI for my graves disease.  Researching on-line, it seems to be connected to RAI treatment for thyroid cancer, in which the patient is already hypothyroid, and the goal is to kill off any stray thyroid (cancer) cells.  If my thyroid is hyperactive, do I really need to follow this diet?

A high iodine diet would interfere with treatment.
A low iodine diet is not required for Graves' but I do tell patients to avoid high iodine foods for about 1 week before the RAI.
The methimazole is stopped 5-7 days before treatment and sometimes resumed temporarily starting 2-3 days after treatment (but not always).

Just wanted to edit my above question.  Searched arcives and found the answer to this is a no, so why did my doctor tell me to do so?  My dr. also told me to discontinue the methamazole 3 weeks before treatment, this seems wrong as well?  Should I be looking for a new endo?
