Normal labs, high iodine uptake and cold nodules...help?

Hi,
I have 3 nodules on my thyroid. One of the nodules is larger than 1 cm on all 3 planes, according to ultrasound. I just had a thyroid scan and uptake done and the results for 24 hours were 43. (Normal range is 10-35%). I had I-123 radioisotope. My thyroid is normal size, with a focal region of photopenia at the upper pole which corresponds with the solid noduloe noted on the us. Decreased radioitracer accumulation at the upper pole (where the nodule is) and minimal decreased uptake on the upper left (where another nodule is). My question is, since my labs are all normal for TSH, T3 and T4, and my nodules are cold, why is my uptake so high? The only other abnormality is low Vitamn D on my labs. Any help would be apoporeciated! Thank you!

Would ignore the 24h uptake value - the important part of the scan (which was not really necessary in the case of normal TSH in the evaluation of your nodule) was to confirm that the nodule greater than 1cm should be considered for FNA biopsy.
Low Vit D is quite common - would make sure calcium level is not high - then supplement with vitamin D.
