On a scale of 1-10

So, I was told today that I am hypothyroid my TSH was 65.57 (normal is .43-5 I was told ), on a scale of 1-10 how severe is my level. I have every symptom you can imagine, the worst being fatigue(sleep about 15 hours a night) and hair loss, almost half my hair. This also came on within about 2 months, as I had it checked not long ago.

A TSH this high means severe hypothyroidism.  Once confirmed with a repeat lab, starting medication (like synthroid) is appropriate, particularly with your symptoms.  Would test antibodies to confirm the likely cause as Hashimoto's.  Occassionally this could be a phase of silent (or even subacute) thyroiditis, in that case we sometimes will treat with medication for 6 months then see if we can lower the dose and stop the medication (the primary exception to this is if the patient is planning a pregnancy -- then we don't stop the med until no further pregnancies planned).

I was just diagnosed with Hoshimotos.  My tsh was 75.  What are you're side effects?  I also had creatinine kinase levels of 1334.  I have severe muscle fatigue and occasional water retention.  Don't know if this is normal.

My main symptoms are fatigue(sleep about 12 hours a night and when I wake up I dont want to get out of bed, or generally do anything ever. My hair has also fallen out quite a bit and my skin is dry everywhere. I am also super irritable. I have a heart arrythmia as well, maybe not related, but it sure does get excited when I take this medication.

Hoshimotos runs in my family, so I am going to get the screening done to see if that is the underlying cause.

I I was put on Synthroid .025mcgs for a week, increasing to .50 for 2 weeks, then I have to have a blood test again, the doctor started me off slow because of the heart issue.

I'm going to ask to be referred to a specialist, just incase.

I got it tested a week ago today and and it came back as 65.57 mu/l. I had, had it done about 4-5 months prior and was told everything was in a normal range. I was put on synthriod today, and I will have to increase the dosage slowly over the weeks.

Julie,

You are far out of range but I have seen higher numbers (at diagnosis).
The point is, you are hypothyroid and need treatment. Symptomatic or not.

Out of curiosity, what was your last TSH and when was it drawn?
