Bad taste in mouth after surgery

I am 8 days out of surgery to remove a large non-cancerous nodule from my thyroid.  I am healing as one would expect for the time passed; however, I have had a bad taste in my mouth since surgery.  I am also having a hard time tasting food.  I was given morphine for pain for 10 or so hours after surgery, and could seem to taste it after each injection.  I am wondering if this could be playing a part in my tastebuds being zapped and the rotten taste in my mouth.

Thanks for any replys on this.

Would talk to your surgeon about this - it may be the endotracheal tube used to intubate patients for anesthesia.  Salivary gland damage is not part of thyroid surgery.  Gastro-esophogeal reflux is sometimes worse after surgery.

I am 6 days after surgery total thyroidectomy. I have the same, with a reflux and loss of taste. The roof of my mouth is sore too with painful swollowing still.  It could be from the anaesetic. I did a 24 hour vomit session after the surgery though so it may be also from that.  I have the seutures removed Tuesday so will check it all out then. Hey have you slept much since???? I have had almost no sleep at all.
