FNA Benign, Ultrasound Suspicious

An endocrinologist at a large hospital did an ultrasound guided FNA on a 22 mm thryoid mass of left thyroid. He said it looked suspicious on ultrasound because of vascularity of it. It was mixed cystic and solid. It came back from pathology benign. I am meeting with my primary care and a surgeon this week to get their opinions. I do feel something in my throat. I can feel a tightness when I swallow and I do get slight hoarseness by the end of the day (I am a teacher). My endocrinologist says that I should at least get a lobectomy of this to be safe due to the appearance of it and some of my feelings in my throat.

Would discuss this with ENT to see if the hoarseness or other "feelings in throat" are likely due to the nodule.
Would not recommend surgery for ultrasound appearance alone, rather repeat the FNA as the false-negative rate (national average) of one FNA is about 7% (meaning that 7 of 100 benign readings are wrong).  Two benign FNAs improves the sensitivity of the test.
There is also the "worry factor" -- ie, if this is keeping you up at night, then a definite answer with lobectomy may be warranted.

I ended up having a left lobectomy after consulting with surgeon. Pathology benign after surgery. Thyroid blood work normal at this point. Thanks so much for your advice.
