RAI protocol

i have to take thyrogen - I131 - the scan & bloodwork
how secluded do i need to be from my 5 young kids & husband(he is awaiting back surgery so shouldnt care for kids too much)4 hr drive to take the radioactive stuff - how restricted does contact with them & their food ect have to be?

The problem is high dose radio-iodine.  If this is a standard thyrogen protocol with a 4 mCi dose of I-131 then there is little restriction.  If it is a high dose of I-131, then you would need restriction and should discuss this with the physician giving the I-131.  If high dose, I usually tell patients 5-7 days away from small children.

I just took Thyrogen 2 wks ago. I did not have any special restrictions. I have a 5 year old boy and I shared food and slept with him. If you have high dose of radiation, that is a problem, you have to stay away for 3 days at least.
