CatScan with Iodine Contrast?

Just curious if a cscan with iodine contrast can affect your thyroid at all. I had one done the other day on my chest because I was having chest pain. I asked them if it would cause a problem because of my Hashi's/Hypo and the tech said no. Just wondering if the iodine is making me feel bad.

Any thoughts?

I totally agree with AR I too have troubles when I have the iodine injection for these scans

Again - nobody reacts in a way they seem too concerned and does it anyway when I tell them I have bad reactions to it.

I am usually unsteady hyper for about 2 days after.

The iodine in contrast dye will mess with your hormone levels if you have a thyroid.

Doctors NEVER seem to think about that. I had an Endo put me through that when I was so hyper I was in a wheelchair. You'd think an Endo would know better.

I've had three CT scans since becoming ill. Nobody ever asks anything other than "are you alergic to iodine", and they don't get too excited if you say yes. They just shove in the dye and "keep an eye" on you in case you stop breathing or something.

Good QUESTION.  I was wondering this too actually.  I had Thyroid Cancer though so I don't have a thyroid anymore.  I know thyroid cells take in iodine.  So in my case, I did not want to provide that much iodine for them (if I should have any left ~ I'm paranoid about this).  I want to starve those buggers ~ lol!!!!

For an otherwise fine thyroid I dont think extra iodine would be harmful at all.  Its just feeding them what they need anyway.

I'd be interested to see what anyone else says.
