Its been about 3+ years since my surgery and Im VERY disappointed with the scarring. I used Scarguard (very expensive) and my scars are actually still very red, in which my surgeon says until this fades to almost my normal skin color he cannot do scar corrective surgery? Any ideas how to speed this up....of course I protect well when in the sun (sunscreens, skin not exposed, etc) I had even tried the massaging, etc but feel it was too late for that and it needed to be done right after, and I was not informed of that to heal...thanks!
I am using silicone strips (Cica is the name of them). The kind plastic surgeons use. They seem to be doing a good job.
I am using scar tapes and seems to be doing a good job. My surgeon recommended it to me instead of the other stuff.
Cheers,
Scott
nothing, although it will only be 2 weeks Monday that I had surgery. I was told to keep it out of the sun. Mine looks great....I am not so sure that it is completely due to the surgeon's ability, although I think that is a big part of it, I think some people just heal better due to their skin type.
Nothing! And my scar looks wonderful. Great surgeon :-)
Pure Aloe gel both times. I found something fantastic for the summer: lip balm with sunscreen - works great on the second smile too!
I was just reading about scars and I have had extensive reconstruction on my face due to skin cancer removals and my plastic surgeon suggests that you don't put anything on the scars because many people have reactions to those creams. My face looks remarkable- I do of course keep sunscreen on at all times as well. That's the key- keep scars out of the sun.
That brings up a very imp. point .. my dermatologist reminded me NO SUN AT ALL ON THE SCAR for first year ... use only 30+ on it!!!!!!!! If it gets sun it can permanently discolor from the sun causing it to pigment ....!!!
Yes, Mederma stings me still, too ? Weird, isn't that?
C~
I have been using mederma also...I at first used it to soon after TT and it stung...but now it is good and I think it is diminishing the scar very well....

Beware--I am 8 months post TT and Mederma stings! I tried it for 3 days.
massaging with vitamin e and my regular moisturizer...
I use Mederma and it's been working great. I'm 3.5 months post-TT and it's fading quite nicely. Most people say they don't even notice it.
At three weeks post op, I was told by my surgeon to stop using the Neosporin or other antibiotic treatments due to the risk of developing sensitivity and to begin using "any cream or lotion I had on hand" and to begin rubbing and massaging the incision to break up any adhesions tha may form. The moisture from the cream and the massaging are working, I am now 8 weeks post op and my little "second smile" line is smooth and flat and beginning to fade nicely. I won't kid you, it's still there, but progressing nicely.
At my 6 week check up with my Endo, she said it was one of the nicest scars she has seen and echoed what the surgeon said about the moisture and massage. Oh, and don't forget the sunscreen this spring and summer, our tender necks need extra protection this year!
