Any idea what the normal dose of naturethroid is for someone with no thyroid?

Hi,  Im new to this board  ( ha!)   Recently switched to taking my full dose of naturethroid primarily as a single dose in the morning.   Multi dosing was making me a foggy.     Im doing pretty good except I keep getting this MASSIVE crash around 3-4 pm and then once I get over the crash I am fine.    Ive never done the single dose thing,  I'm wondering if Im on too little now.   Im taking 1.5  grains in the morning with .5  at bed time ( so 2 grains each day) .    My labs always say I'm good regardless of if I'm on 2-4 grains.

What do you guys see as a normal dose for a person with TT on average?

So now I'm up to 3.5  grains.   I do feel better most of the time .  I take 2 grains upon wake.   1 grain at 1 pm.     then a drop at bed time.      I just cant bet this weird wave between  4pm and 7 pm.   It feels like almost motion sickness.    I don't understand it.  It comes,  then it goes every single day.   Honestly I should just climb in bed and ride it out,  but I have a company to run.   I still cant understand why I'm not seeing anything on this anywhere.   I never had this before the thyroid disease started.  It has to be a result of either the meds, too much ,  too little ,  or wrong time dosing.

Another thing that came to mind is that somewhere I think I remember seeing that the normal required dose of NDT is between 3 and 5 grains.  When I compared that to Red_Star's info that converts to about 2 grains, I wondered about the difference.  One big difference that comes to mind is that all of the natural thyroid hormone goes directly into the blood.   Thyroid med is not absorbed 100%, so the dosage has to be higher.

I do expect that your late afternoon slump is due to low thyroid.  Along with increasing your dosage, why not split the dose and take 1 1/2 grains in the morning and 1 grain in the early afternoon?  Also, have you been tested recently for the other variables I mentioned:  cortisol,  Free T3 to Reverse T3 ratio, Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin?

Hi Bruce,
And 100 mcg of T4 and 10 of T3 is equivalent to 130 mcg of T4.  Since one grain of NatureThroid or Armour is equivalent to about 66 mcg of T4 that means the normal thyroid gland output is very close to  2 grains of NDT.  Two grains might be on the low side for you.  It also depends on a number of factors, including  cortisol level, Reverses T3 level, Vitamin D and ferritin.  In addition there are a number of variables that affect thyroid hormone transport into cells.  You need to take enough thyroid med to eliminate the signs/symptoms of hypothyroidism without creating the signs/symptoms of hyperthyroidism.  That "sweet spot" is called euthyroidism.

Hi Gimel,   and RED STAR.      So I don't have a thyroid and I'm only taking 2 grains  ( well today I bumped it up to 2.5)  so chances are that this weird wave I get between 3 and 5 is probably more HYPO than HYPER.   OR could possibly just be an adjustment response,  but more than likely its not "hyper"  right?   whats weird is if I lay down for lets say 20-30 mins it literally passes.  But for the 20-30 mins each day when it hits me,  it comes on strong.

Hello stranger. :) A normal thyroid gland produces 100 mcg T4 and 10 mcg T3 daily. 10:1 ratio.
