Anyone else anemic in addition to hypothyroid?

Just curious if anyone else is anemic in addition to being hypothyroid?  I just found out today that my latest blood tests show a TSH of 15 along with anemia.  I don't have the blood test results in my hand so I can't post them.  I started 50mcg of Synthroid today and a prescription iron supplement tomorrow.  Just curious as to when I can expect to feel some energy.  I have ZERO as of today, and have felt pretty bad for a few weeks (if I am being honest, since my son was born 9 months ago, but I have better weeks and then bad ones).  Any help would be great.
Thanks!

I am anemic and have been pretty much my whole life. I am also hypothyroid. I have to tell you do NOT take the iron supplement within 4 hours of your thyroid medication. Do NOT take it with any milk products. Also many of the pill type of iron supplements will give you constipation. Better to take a liquid form of iron. This for anemics works much better.
Are you having periods since your baby was born? (Some women don't get periods till they stop breast feeding even up to 12 months. Since I do not know you history I am only suggesting.) Heavy periods can be due to hypothyroidism and taking iron will only band-aid the problem. Loss of iron through menstruation due to the hypothyroidism is a catch 22 situation. Meaning getting the hypothyroid state leveled out can greatly improve this.

Hello, this is my 1st time here and am seeking many answers as well. I am hypothyroid and have been for many yrs. now. I had always wondered what was wrong with me and had actually accepted the fact that I was just a very lazy person. Most of my problems began after my last child was born 27 yrs. ago. My O.B. sent me to a neurologist because I had complaints about dizziness, very shaky hands, feeling zapped of all energy along with feeling as if I was trying to have seizures when I would try and sleep at night (I could feel my eyes trying to roll to back of my head) I would feel panicky and my heart would begin to palpitate very rapidly. The neurologist diagnosed me with the "after baby blues" and put me on amitriptilyne for depression. I still suffered for yrs. after that with my weight bouncing up and down and my energy levels the same. I got to the point that I could not hold a steady job at all. During this time period my TSH levels were tested from time to time and always showed my thyroid was fine even though I showed all the tale tale signs of hypothyroidism down to my eyebrows being very scraggly, sparse and thin at the outter edges. Finally 10yrs. down the road my TSH levels were tested again and showed that I was hypothyroid. I was not told much about the disease except that it did make you feel tired and slowed your metabolism which in turn caused the weight gain. I was started out on 75mcg of levothyroxine which did begin to help with my energy levels as well as weight loss. It wasn't long after that I began to feel the same symptoms along with some new ones and my family doctor increased the medicine up to 100 mcg. In those 10 years I have suffered many more symptoms that I did not realize until lately is associated with my hypothyroidism. I have had about 3 spells in the past couple of years ( the worst was in April of this yr) that make me feel as if I am dying. I was visiting with my family for the Easter holiday and after the 1st day there I became so tired and ill feeling that all I could do was lay on the sofa and sleep of and on, only getting up to go to the bathroom which was a very hard thing to do as I could barely make it there and back without feeling out of breath and feeling the sensation that everything was turning gray and I was at the point of passing out. I truly felt like the life was slowly leaving my body but I was too tired to feel worried much less doing something about it. My visit was only suppose to have been for 4 days but I ended up staying a little over a week because I was too weak and tired to drive me and my 2 kids (I am raising 2 of my family members children and have had them since they were infants) the 4 1/2 hr. drive back home. I finally started feeling better my last 2 days there and got to enjoy a little time with my grown children and my grandkids. I had told my family doctor what had happened but she didn't seem too concerned but did set me up for an appointment for a checkup and some blood work. I got a call from the nurse letting me know the results of my labs had came back and they showed that I had very high levels of vitamin D and that I was anemic. This really concerned me, especially the vitamin D levels being so high and I voiced this to her as well as asking her what I needed to do to get this back to normal. I was told to stop any vitamin D supplements as well as wearing at least a 30 proof sun screen and eat more foods containing vitamin C to help me absorb the iron in my diet better. I let her know that as far as the vitamin D was concerned that the only supplement was in a multiple vitamin I had taken for yrs. under the advice of my doctor back home in Va. and that was only 400 IU which is not enough to really do anything and that I new that it was impossible to hit toxic levels of vitamin D from the sun. I also let her know I have never been anemic. I am so mad that she kept sounding like a robot repeating over and over "You may discuss this with the P.A. when you come in for your follow up next month". A month is a very long time to feel like I do and of course I want answers and help now. I had let her know that for the past 6 months I have been experiencing severe swelling in both feet, ankles and legs up to my knee ( she did get to witness this a couple of times and gave me Lasix injections to get rid of he extra fluid) as well as awaking a couple of mornings with my right hand so swollen that it looked like a blown up medical glove. I also let her know that I have been experiencing severe joint pain and stiffness in both hands with the right one being the worst. I never had this before and has been happening for about 6 weeks now along with my lower back hurting almost every day now (right side worse) as well as my vision has begun to be very blurry and drying out often. I have always felt that the thyroid has been under treated. Most doctors rely solely on the TSH tests which most know is not reliable. I guess the anemia explains these newer symptoms of being so tired that I feel as if he life source is being sucked out of me but I WANT to know WHY my labs come back showing the anemia and very high vitamin D levels. I need info please!
