Anyone with TT or Lobectomy exp...

I am having a TT on July 7th mainly due to a follicular lesion on my left lobe which is large and obviously visible.  I am not stressed about the surgery or scant possibility of cancer.  Mainly I am stressed about how quickly I can be regulated on my medication.  And for me I have not had any major hypo symptoms I feel great,  my TSH is probably around 3 at this time.  I am stressed about feeling worse after the surgery with my TSH going up.
Also I am still somewhat questioning is a lobectomy better than a total?  Not that a lobectomy is even a possibility for me since I have a nodule on the other lobe also,   just thinking to myself what if the surgeon gets in there removes the one lobe it is benign and the other lobe looks okay?  I am just being a little freaked out  I guess sorry to ramble.

Edit. . . .  I'd follow your doctors lead regarding TT vs. Lobecemy. . . . The end result is really the same. . you'll be on medication either way. . .

I had a very similar situation.  They found a follicular "neoplasm" and I dicided to go with only a lobecemy because my spot was fairly small and my doctor indicated that it was an acceptable choice.  The nodule ended up being benign!

I wrestled with my choice to go with the surgery and decided I'd rather have part of my thyroid if that was possible knowing that if it was cancer I'd have to have a second surgery. . . .  It was a risk I was willing to take and my doctor supported.

Anxiety is normal.  I too wondered if I'd feel worse after surgery since my levels before surgery were pretty normal.  I've consistently had people who have been hypo or know something about the condition tell me that once your levels are "normal" you will feel as good as you did before surgery. . .

I'm one week post op and feeling pretty good - a little fatigue but nothing major.  I'm on 75mg of synthroid, though know that it takes a while for that to really get in your system. . .

The recovery has been fairly uneventful for me.  I was up and walking around the same day.  Swallowing hurt for a while but that's to be expected.

I can start exercising etc. next week and resume "normal activities".

I wish that I had found this doc...three years ago but I am thankful that I have found her now and I am so ready to live.

Wow.  That's really nice that your doc realizes that the "ranges" are just that.....ranges.  It doesn't necessarily mean that just because one person is in the normal "range" that they feel good!  Sounds like you have a good doc.  That's wonderful.

Like I said, I'm so glad that you're feeling better now.  I don't know the full history of what's gone on with you, but it sounds like you've felt pretty crappy for a long time!

Take care!

BTW...Doc told me that it could take a while to tweak my medicine and get to feeling normal again...She said she will be there through it all and work it out with me.  We will be going over all my labs next week too.  She explained that she wants me to be totally "in tune" with my body because I will be the one to notice when things don't feel right.  She believes that Labs and ranges are one thing but if I don't feel right or good then something is wrong.  We will need to keep on top of it.

Hope this helps

I had a TT on June 26th and felt better immediately.  Actually posted to the forum several hours after my surgery.  I alternated between freaking out and being calm and peaceful for several days prior to my surgery.  Even getting the hysterical giggles as they were wheeling me to surgery.  I won't have the pathology report back for another week but the doc said it didn't look suspicious to the naked eye.  But even not knowing this I can still appreciate how good I feel right now.  I think if anything I am more upset with the journey through all the tests and doctors visits that I went through just to feel good again.

oh well, I'll take it as a victory now. Hope all goes well with your surgery. Let us know how it goes.

It took me about 30 days post TT & RAI to get my levels back "in range" then about 30 after that for me to feel like they were back in range.  For about a month now, I all of a sudden feel better than I have felt since my TT in August 2005.

I would just let them take what they need, b/c you'll have to be on meds no matter what.

It's normal to be freaked out.  At least your's is hitting you now.  I didn't hit "freaked out" until they were wheeling me into surgery and I didn't even have time to rationalize.

You probably will feel worse after surgery, but hopefully with you making the doctors stay on top of things, they will get your levels back under control quickly.

Good luck!
