That's a very odd assortment of thyroid tests for someone without a thyroid history. I tend to think your doctor is pretty much in the dark when it comes to thyroid.
Your TSH looks good. However, TSH is a screening test, at best, in the absence of symptoms. Fatigue, night sweats and general malaise are symptoms of hypo, but can be symptoms of many other things as well. I suspect your doctor ran these tests to eliminate thyroid as a possibility. However, they don't because they're not the right tests.
If you really do want to eliminate thyroid as a possibility, you should ask your doctor to repeat TSH and add in the tests for the actual thyroid hormones, FREE T3 and FREE T4. Be sure to specify FREE because there are tests for total T3 and total T3, which are the default if FREE isn't specified. Tests for totals don't give nearly the information.
Also, he ran TGab (thyroglobulin antibody), probably wanting to eliminate autoimmune thyroid disease. However, another antibody, TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibody) is a much more prevalent marker of Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
If you test TSH, FT3, FT4 and TPOab, you will be in a much better position to eliminate thyroid as a possibility. Bear in mind that both FT3 and FT4 should be in the higher end of the range for most people. If you have those tests run, you can post them here if you'd like, and we can help you interpret them. If you do, please post reference ranges as well because they vary lab to lab.
If thyroid doesn't look like an issue upon further testing, you might look into vitamin and mineral deficiencies, which can also cause some of your symptoms. B-12, D and iron would be my first choices.
Hi. These are the only tests he ran. I never thought I had a Thyroid problem. I've never been told I have. Do these tests show anything regarding thyroid problems? Thanks so much. I went because I was very tired all of the time, night sweats and just an overall ill feeling.
Are those the only tests your doctor ran?
Did you go to him with a specific complaint, or do you have an existing thyroid condition? Please give us some history.
