Burnign Legs and Hypothyroidism

Hi

I stumbled across this board while searching to see if i was losing my mind.  Lately i have been getting this burning in my legs...mainly my calves and I am wondering if this is due to my thyroid.  I used to take 150 of Levo but the dr lowered it to 137.5.

Not sure what my next step is...maybe an endocrinoligist.....

I am going through the same thing. I lowered my meds because my eyes were so bad and low and behold shin/ calf leg burning. They were ok prior to the decrease. I'm starting to take my iron and my b12 again. I also took a Motrin to see if this helps. Yes thyroid labs help. I will get new ones this week.

What was the basis for decreasing your medication?

Do you have thyroid labs that you can post for us?  It's really difficult, if not impossible, to respond fully, without seeing what your actual levels are.  If your doctor is not providing copies of your labs, all you have to do is ask for them, since your doctor is required, by law, to provide copies upon request.

You don't necessarily need an endo; many primary care doctors are better thyroid doctors than some endos, as many endo specialize in diabetes, not thyroid.

Have you had vitamin B12 tested?  Extended periods of low vitamin B12 can cause nerve damage to extremities.  Nerve conduction tests show that I have moderate neuropathy and the neurologists conclusion is that the cause is years of untreated Pernicious Anemia.

What are your current thyroid hormone levels?  Please post results with reference ranges.

Why did your doctor lower your levo?

Hypothyroidism is one listed cause of peripheral neuropathy (damage to the peripheral nervous system). I have burning feet from not enough thyroid hormone.
