Can non-dairy creamer be used during the LID?

Can a non-dairy creamer be used in a low iodine diet?  I'm preparing for RAI on the 16th.

This is harder then I thought, especially being hypo to.  I just want to cry.

Thanks!

My diet called for Mocha Mix.  But all hospitals are different.  If your non-dairy creamer is free of carageenan (sp?) then I think you're safe, but when in doubt, you should, as Shannon says, "Leave it out"...

I used the powdered coffeemate this time around on my one year LID.  French Vanilla.  Worked fine

Reese120:  The Hemp Milk is made by Living Harvest and I bought it at Whole Foods or you can buy it online.

I have to start LID next week...I so feel your pain.

Pep88:  Powdered Coffeemate is allowed on LID?  OMG.  You just made my day!!!

I have enclosed a link to the low iodine diet from the National Institute of Health.  If you go directly to the section regarding milk and dairy products you will find... Milk and other dairly products allowed:  None. Liquid and powdered.  Then under this is: nondairy creamers may be used as milk or cream substitutes if they do not contain carrageenan.

Shannon, Happy to make your day.  I made mine when I was on LID and found this.  Happy to share.

This says we can eat one ounce of cheese per day.  I just passed out.  I'm so freaking happy!

Wait, but on the CoffeeMate website it says the powdered stuff contains Sodium Caseinate (Milk Derivative)...

The NIH list also says you can have butter and mayonnaise and that all companies are required to list whether the salt they use is Iodized or not.

OMG, this has changed my life.

I think I used the powdered stuff.  Mine plastic bottle says less than 2% of sodium Casseinate.  I figured that that could be part of the "low-Iodine" part of the diet for me...  It's the give and take part of the diet...  the "GIVE" me creamer part...
