Can the wrong amount of Armour thyroid drugs cause problems

I have been hypothyroid for years and on Armour Thyroid. All of a sudden I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease, Thyroid Eye Disease and SVT. I'm trying to figure out how all of this is happening. I've always gone to an endocrinologist and my lab tests have always been good. I have never been hyperthyroid so I can't understand how I could have Graves disease. The Endrocrinologist is reducing my medication a little, the Eye doctor wants to operate on my eye muscles but I feel like I need to get my thyroid under control for the SVT first. Any advice would be helpful.

I’m sorry I have to ask a bunch of questions before I can give you an answer, so please bear with me.  First we have to determine what your problem might be, then we can move on to the rest.

How long have you been hypothyroid/on Armour?  Do you know what caused your original hypothyroidism?  Were you ever tested for Hashinoto’s?  That would be antibody tests for TPOab and TgAb.

What tests does your endocrinologist do on a regular basis?  S/he should be ordering Free T4, Free T3 and TSH.  Do you know if the antibody test, TSI, was done to diagnose your Graves Diseases?

Do you have current blood test results that you can post, so we can see where your results are within the ranges?  Please be sure to post ranges with each result, since ranges vary from lab to lab and have to come from your own report(s).  This would include, both, thyroid and antibody tests.   If you’ve had an ultrasound, it would also be helpful for you  to post those results so we can see if you have nodules that might be producing hormones, independently of the thyroid.

What ever information you can give us would be helpful, including any vitamin/mineral tests, etc., along with any other symptoms.

I forgot to say that, yes, the wrong amount of Armour can cause problems because too much thyroid hormones can cause hyperthyroidism and too little can cause hypothyroidism, but it can’t cause Graves Disease.   You, either have Graves Disease or you don’t.
