Always make sure copies of your lab tests; that way if you have to go to a different doctor, you won't have to have one doctor send them to another; just provide them from you files. Works much better that way.
When getting T4 and T3 tested, always make sure you insist on the "frees". What are the reference ranges for the tests you had done?
well i am getting my regular thyroid blood work done next week hopefully i know about getting into a different doctor getting the copies of the tests that doctor did on me
It would be more useful to have all the tests over all the months to show the changes (and when you were on meds)
As well ranges on each test are needed as every lab differs. TSH is supposed to be standard but some labs have not adopted the .3-3.0 standard.
It is good at least he did T3, T4 but the "free" tests are better as in Free T3, free T4. He did a free T4 index which is a FTI - "The FTI is obtained by multiplying the (Total T4) times (T3 Uptake) to obtain an index." I honestly have never had a doctor run this test. I have no idea how good it is. The body uses T3.
well i actually have one of copy of may's tests:
TSH: 1.840
T4: 7.2
T3: 32
free thyroxine index: 2.3
You need to have your actual thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 tested. Those are the results that will tell what your thyroid is actually doing.
What antibody tests have you had done?
Don't accept a diagnosis that all is "normal" -- insist on a copy of your lab report so you can actually see what the results and reference ranges are.
It's very possible to have lab results in the "normal" range, but your levels are too low in the range, it might not be good enough for you.
i had a ultrasound two months ago,i go for one next month but the only thing that shows up abnormal is the cyst.i will be sure to get the copy of the tests next week,i never had iodine test
Get a copy of your tests as well - all of the reports and the blood tests. TSH is not a good enough test on its own - it is a pituitary test. If it is high, then he should test the pituitary. It may just be the thyroid but then he has to do a better job of testing the thyroid - and a CT is not the way.
50mg is rather a low dose. Have you had an ultrasound or iodine testing?
