I was doing it on my own because after being over medicated for 15 years by my psychiatrist who was treating the symptoms when the real problem was hormonal, I had to do it on my own since they know nothing and I found Dr. Gordon in CA at www.tbimedlegal.com and he is the reason why I saw an endocrinologist and now they are recommending everyone with a TBI see an endocrinologist asap but the fifth endocrinologist tested T4 and TSH but not T3 and now they are all normal
you need to be on cytomel for your depression, it helped me and I have even researched that it is the hormone that is most needed after a TBI. So please try cytomel first, the very first day I ever took any was October 27, 2010, because I wrote on my calendar, "Best day ever" and that was 15 years after my accident which occurred in 1995
I haven't been checked yet for it but we need to have our pituitary evaluated after a TBI. Without the progesterone I would not have been able to figure this out but Luluheadsiss try cytomel for depression, it works way better than any psych drugs all of which you do not need and I have a good psychiatrist to back me up on that Peter R. Breggin, M.D.
flyingfool, progesterone effects the effectiveness of the thyroid and since my body does not make it anymore that is why I need so much thyroid medicine everyday. I already had all those tests run but every increase in cytomel was wonderful until I finally reached the correct dose and my body told me that more was too much so I went back. I cannot take progesterone everyday but I can take thyroid medicine everyday and I do.
I survived a severe TBI in 1997. It has been an endless battle with my weight and severe depression ever since. The crazy thing is that I have dealt with these same issues my whole life. One time a doctor prescribed cytomel for me post injury. I don't remember if it helped or not, but for some reason this came to my mind today while I was walking. I love to run every day, but since my pelvis was crushed, I run into pain around the time of my cycle and I have to walk. Should I ask my doctor to put me on this again? Everyone is so clueless about TBI's and it is soooo frustrating. Please help me anyone that reads this!!!!!!!!!!!
I would suggest that you get a full Thyroid panel or please post your lab results if you have them already.
The key Thyroid numbers are:
TSH
FREE T4
FREE T3 - Not total T3
Hormone balance is very tricky and complicated. But it seems odd to me that low Progesterone would be treated with a T3 med of Cytomel. And a rather large dose of that as well???
I have actually heard of several others who's sex hormones were stabilized by first stabilizing Thyroid to the correct levels. Seems like your Dr is approaching it from the exact opposite way. maybe it will work???
