Does thyroid disease cause hair loss?

I have been depressed, out of appetite, really anxious, feeling fatigued, not been getting a lot of sleep since January of last year. Recently in August I started loosing patches of hair on my scalp. Plus my hair felt really damaged. I decided to shave it this last October, and then I realized I’ve been loosing hair in the body as well, in my groin area, and also eye brows little by little.

your symptoms are at least consistent with low thyroid. And on that basis it would make sense to be tested as Gimel suggested.  But could be other things as well.

Do you have intolerance to cold?  Are you generally colder than others around you most generally?

google symptoms of low thyroid and see if you have any more symptoms that are also consistent with low thyroid.

IF you have been tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4, Free T3 (not the same as Total T4 and Total T3) and TSH, please post the results and reference ranges.  If not, it would be a good idea to do so.  Also, hair loss can sometimes be related to low ferritin (a form of iron),  If not tested for ferritin that would also be a good idea.
