Don't laugh but...sweaty palms are getting in the way!

Hello. I've been dealing with thyroid cancer for several years.  I worked in the medical field until 2003 when the cancer metastasized to my lymph nodes and I became to ill to work.  I am still dealing with the cancer...but I've been told that there is nothing that they can do for me as the radiation didn't work. I've had 3 major surgeries on my neck and 2 minor ones removing lymph nodes etc.

I've decided to live my life and get back to work. I started back at the hospital this week and am thrilled to be back.  My problem is my body temperature is much warmer than usual and my hands are constantly sweating.

They sweat soo much that I am having a hard time getting my gloves on so I can work with my patients. I could really use some advice. It's becoming comical watching me trying to get them on.  Does anybody have any ideas? This is really embarrassing!  lol

Thank you...got so busy at work...didn't have time to check with the pharmacist. I will next week after morning rounds. Yes...doesn't sound like something I want to put on my face or neck. But might just work on my hands.  Brought the chalk bag and rubbed my hands before putting on the gloves and it worked quit well. But I can see the problems it could cause using that method in the ER.

Stella...LOL that's too funny!  Thanks for the chuckle!  :)

ChitChat...good question. I don't know where my vit D is sitting. Gonna run a cbc, cmp, thryoid panel, thyroglobulin in about 3 weeks. I'll see if I can't add that to my panels.  Thanks!

Its a heavy duty antipersperant liquid roll-on application. Directions are to apply at night (it soaks in) about once to several times per week, not every day (heavy duty!). It feels like saltwater, next morning you dont notice.

Face - I dont think so. I would think it would be harsh, unsafe on the face and will feel wierd.

I know you said NOT too laugh - but we do have to on this board.

Sweating isn't uncommon and can be set at one area... Imagine it at times with a little condition called Monkey Butt?

Now that is something thyroid patients can only relate to!

Thank you! I'll ask our pharmacist when I get to work today.  Gonna bring a chalk bag you use for billiards today just in case. lol

Sassy~ Thanks! Yes, I get full body sweats all night long. During the day, it's mostly my hands, neck and chest.  Been getting atinea versicolor (sp) because of it. Started showering with Selsun Blue to help.

Thanks again to you both!  :)

Have you tried talcom powder on your hands and in your gloves before you try to put them on.  I have recently started facial sweating!! So I know how you feel.  It is embarrasing.  I also have recently read that witch hazel works,  haven't tried it yet, but I did get a product called Maxium wipes for presiperation and I just wipe my face, neck and hands (anywhere you sweat)  and it has really helped.  Good Luck!!
