Sounds like thyroid, but since yoru getting it rechecked, I wouldn't worry unless it's hurting you.
I have this too. I started out feeling like something was just pressing against my adams apple, but the area of soreness has gotten considerably bigger over the past few weeks. And the "pressure" has also gotten a lot worse - sometimes I feel like it's going to choke me.
I was referred to an ENT and I had my first appt yesterday - best thing that could have happened to me!! I have not been dx with nodules and he couldn't feel anything, but I go on Tues for ultra sound to try to find out what's going on.
Definitely a nodule or a goiter....I had that but it felt like someone was putting their fingers across my neck and slowly strangling me. I also felt the thumb like pressure but inside not near the outside. When I had my surgery there was a 2.4cms single nodule working its way backwards, (amongst at least 10 other little darlings on the front of the thyroid) which is why many doctors, if you have a nodule like that, won't feel it.
Mine grew pretty darn fast and I suspect yours is too. If it gets to the point where you really are having difficulty swallowing or breathing (as I was) then you need to get to see the doc sooner than next month.
Cheers!
Not sure if you are talking to me or Shherry, but I think your post could include both of us. On mine, there is nothing to feel on the outside (like something pressing against my windpipe), which is why no one at my regular doctor's office has done anything before now. The nurse practitioner (that's who I saw the last couple of times I was there) insisted that it could not be thryoid related since she couldn't feel anything from the outside. She insisted that it had something to do with previous vocal cord surgery, which is why she sent me back to the ENT who did those surgeries. I was angry at her at first because I know this has nothing to do with the vocal cord surgeries (ENT confirmed that), but she just wouldn't listen and it turned out to be a blessing disguise as the ENT is pretty well versed in thyroid issues.
Anyway, I get the US on Tues, so hopefully that will shed light on what's happening for me.
Did you all constantly feel that pressure, pushing etc or did it get better sometimes? For instance, mine seems to start bothering me in the early afternoon and by night time it is the worse. By morning it's much much better. So, sometimes I am wondering if it's something else? If it were the thyroid wouldn't it be there all the time (that feeling)?
My goiter has grown incredibly fast. No goiter/nodules in the middle of August, only coughing and hoarseness, to a full-blown monster that feels as if someone is pressing their finger in right above my collarbone and choking me 24/7. All of this happened in just 2 1/2 months!
I hate everythin about this disease. The hoarsness is the pits . . halfway through the day I lose my voice. I suck on "lubricating" cough drops all the time just get by. I am SO tired of people saying "Excuse me?", "Pardon?" "What did you just say?" I know they're not being mean . . they truly cannot understand the raspy whisper my voice becomes after a short time of use.
I can't breathe at night. I strangle, gargle and snore. Must prop up on pillows, but that only helps a bit. Today, a bit of saliva went down the wrong pipe and I started coughing like crazy and choking. Couldn't catch my breath for what seemed like a very VERY long time. Called my doc in a panic. She was blown away when I told her this "bull frog throat" had developed in such a short period of time. Had missed that finer point when I saw her last week. She is going to move up my ultrasound,. . which was scheduled for Thursday,, to tomorrow.
Told me I should've gone to the ER for the choking/breathing/coughing episode. How could things have gotten so bad and the goiter/nodules gotten so big in less than 3 months? It doesn't make any sense. But, I do know I want it OUT!! If the growth has been so abrupt and so stupendous in such a short period of time, I doubt it's gonna get any better with thyroid hormone treatment.
I feel so discouraged. But, I'm glad to have found others who know exactly what I'm going through. I wish you weren't. I wish we all were all happy and healthy and living our lives without fear or pain. But, if that's not to be, it's nice to have support. Thank you so much for being here.
