i have a question. i have silent thyroiditis recently i had labs drawn that indicated low hemoglobin at 11.3 and high rdw at 16.4. all of the other values were borderline low. over the past year i've been getting cbc done often because of the hyper/hypo phases, and my hemoglobin his been like 12.6/12.4. suddenly now it's low. do these values indicate iron deficiency/pernicious anemia?
i go through phases of craving/chewing massive quantities of ice...and i've been in that phase for a couple of months. i also had a strange symptom reappear after awhile of not having it...vertigo while sitting completely still in a chair. i actually had to hold onto the chair until the vertigo passed.
also, my wbc value is borderline low at 5.2 (i think the lower end of the range is 4.0). i'm concerned, but none of the doctors are concerned. am i overly concerned? i did start taking a multivitamin.
Barb! Yes they just diagnosed me with hypothyroid disease as well as adrenal fatigue. I am 29 yrs old and feel soo tired all the time. I just joined the gym to try to work some weight off but with me being as tired as I am it is so hard. I never have an appetite , always tired, exhausted, my B 12 shots have been helping somewhat but it has only been a few months. I am getting married in one year so this is all so frustrating! I found an amazing Doctor and she has helped with diagnosing a lot of things, it is just such a long process!~
Hashimoto's is not a SYMPTOM of pernicious anemia; however, they are both autoimmune diseases and SOMETIMES are seen together.
I fully understand the "tired" you are referring to, and I don't know how long you've been on B12 shots, it took a while for my levels to come up so maybe it hasn't been long enough.
Have you had your thyroid tested? Thyroid problems can have a lot of the same symptoms.
Hi ! Pernicious Anemia is just the worse kind of tired you can imagine and you feel like draggy, exhausted, dizzy, nautious, irritable and numbness, tingling as well as a feeling of foggy thinking. I finally after seeing a BA-ZILLION doctors was diagnosed with a B 12 level of 128. The doctor said it was a miracle I had not gone into some kind of coma. I started out with getting B 12 injections (1 ML) every other day for a week. Then twice a week, then twice a month. My B 12 was still showing low numbers and so now I am on a B12/folate 1 ML injection sub Q every three days. I am feeling a little better but still feel like something is wrong. I have never heard of hashimotos being a symptom with pernicious anemia..
Hi there. I have pernicious anemia. The main symptom I had was fatigue (and I DO mean fatigue) - to the extreme. I also had a lot of tingling/burning/numbness in my hands and feet. I still have some as permanent damage. In addition, for several years, my red blood cells had shown up as enlarged - I had one doctor even accuse me of being an alcoholic because that is also a symptom of alcoholism - but that doctor never even checked my B12 levels.
For treatment, I inject vitamin B12 every 2 weeks. Normally, the B12 shots are monthly, but that just wasn't enough to bring my levels up high enough. Even at every 2 weeks, I still get pretty "draggy" by the end of the 2 weeks - then I supplement with a sublingual B12, which helps, but not much. I had asked to go to weekly, but since my levels were "normal", the doctor wouldn't let me.
Yes I have Hashi's........... I'm on levothyroxin and cytomel.
