Go off of medication

Have new Dr. and she is talking of taking me off of my Synthroid, 44MCG. I do not have hashi, or graves, though I have multi nodule goiter, deteriorating, adenoma..when the first Dr. put me on med. my blood counts were normal, I've since had 2 docs say they never would have put me on medication...they thing he may have done it to shrink the goiter...he gave me a 100 MCG dose and I was so sick for nearly a yr. I'm now back in normal range with blood counts. My Dr. said, we will do another ultrasound and if there is no change, we can talk about going off of the med. I winced, and she said, if that does not feel good, then we can wait 6 mo. and 1 yr. until I feel comfortable...If there is a change then of course there would be a biopsy. It has not changed since this whole problem started, except for the problem with the med, I lost over 20#, I'm very petite as it is, so was very skinny, I've now gained back 5 1/2#  in just over a yr. Anyway I've heard that you have to be on meds for life once you start them...is that an accurate statement? Thank you, for any response...we have not endo. here, and I've called other cities near by, and not will accept Medicare, and I have no supplement...so am at the mercy of the medical system. I appreciate your taking the time to reply, and make suggestions, of places I can read about this...or ? Sharon

Do you have any actual lab results that you can post, such as TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, along with any antibody tests that may have been done?  Results for both, the original tests when you were started on the med, along with anything current, would allow members to comment more fully.

If you were truly hypo, then, yes, most likely you would need medication for life.  It's not uncommon for nodules to leak hormones independently of the thyroid.  This can tend to make one hyper, which could account for your weight loss.
