Has anyone had thyroid surgery?

My FNA biopsy came back abnormal on my 3 cm nodule.  My endocrinologist says surgery is required and I'm already researching ENT surgeons.

I was just wondering if anyone has gone through the surgery and can tell me what to expect.

Thanks.

I had a TT on 8/4, and all in all, I am pretty happy with the decision. . .there have been a few speed bumps along the way, and I'm still working on getting my dosage right to feel 100%, but all in all, I think I made the right choice.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

be well!

You will find many that went through the surgery. Is this total thyroid removal or partial?

I had a thyroidectomy about 14 years ago. I did not have any complications during or after the surgery. You can't even tell i had the surgery, the scar is hard to see. The surgeon did a great job.

The only thing is after surgery it will take awhile to get your dosage to where you need it to be.

It's very important that the surgeon you choose has done many Thyroid surgeries because your windpipe & parathyroids along with other very important parts are there. Also, that he/she you choose has a good repatation. More then likely it will be benign but 3 cm is big mine was 4 cm. My surgeon took out my left nodule and it was found to have Pap & Follicular carcanoma. although three weeks after I had my right lobe removed I wouldn't recommend that. Anyway surgery was a breeze the tube was in for about 8 hours healing was easy. RAI 131 was recommended and done again I would caussion not to goto my extremes I regret doing that.  I'll in all I am fairing pretty good! Everyday school is in for me learning/re-learning and learning some more about the best way to enhance my body, spirit and mind!
