Ok Guys need YOUR help! :)

I am just wondering if any of you with Graves have eversuffered the following symptoms:

Numbness in mouth
sore throat
rapid weightloss
bad diarrhea
some stiff muscles
bad migraines around your period
foot and arm neuropathies
rapid weight gain
extreme anxiety

I have had these symptoms andat first I thought it was due to hypertyhyroid, but the docs did I cat scan of it and it came out normal, 2 and a half years ago. That when I started having symptoms. I am just wondering, have any of you seemed to have jumped from hyper to hypo and backand forth? I have someone whosuggested I have chiari malformation but I want to cover all my basis here and get as much info as possible. Have any of you with thyroid disorders had the above named symptoms?

Yeah I was thinkin if it is Hashi's, it may not be a good thing to have it removed after I had said that. I know alot about autoimmune diseases because I thought I had lupus and ms and celiac disease. I think I have psorisis or however you spell it. So if I have hashi's and that, I wonder what is next...  I got these stymptoms 3 years ago after I had starved myself and lost 25 lbs too fast. I did that because my now husband then boyfirend left me for 2 months and I was very depressed. Then he came back, life seemd a little better but then my health went hay wire.... Well thanks for your help. I have decided Iam going to try gluten free eating for a time and see how that helps while throwing out the soy and dairy. I can't tolerate dairy anyways and have needed to get rid of it for a longtime! I too agree that it can be cured and I believe you have to find a harmony and balance in your diet and life. Thinking positively always helps! Well I will stop with the rambling. Thanks for your guidance. :)

basic treatment - Yes is that answer - but there is so much good information on Hashimoto's out there for the average patient to learn to be able to suppress these antibodies and control them.

You can't "kill off" antibodies. We are all born with them - but something - and I always did lean on immune system issues as a huge fault - can spiral these demons into rage. Regardless of Graves or Hashi or Diabeties or others....  There's a connection to starving ourselves with improper diet choices, OVER stressed emotionally and vitamin depletion with killing ourselves inside and disease will strike when we are weak. Its not just a common cold that is telling us our immune system is ill too.

I believe it can be "cured" or at least be controlled permanently regardless of what "it" is with autoimmune disease. I always did believe that. Trick is to finding what we lack causing the rages prior to it consuming us entirely. That has a million avenues or doors to open and some just don't have enough time to hit and miss. Treatment for many - may be needed ASAP and that is easier than finding what's broke at times and be able to fix it - prior to permanent damage being done.

Surgery will really only remove the attacked gland. not the rage. - and medical fact is most commonly - autoimmune diseases hit on 3's - so removing the gland could promote "other" attacks on "other" glands... Surgery is not a quick fix by no means. Ask Sheila. A member here on MH. I've walked with her for over a year on Hashitoxcosis and it was he// for her each day. Her removal done - by no means - has helped her control the rages... Meds however and getting the right ones finally - is showing good things and getting her strong again.

I was exhausted yesterday. Sat 12hrs all day and was on Thyroid constantly. Today - I will end early and get out there and live too. TGIF!! Have a great day.:)

I totally and completely agree with you about the Hoshimoto's and I definately will push for the anti bodies test and the FT3. I want to know though, does the basic treatment for Hashi's just thyroid replacement? Man that makes me wanna get my thyroid removed completely! Thanks for your advice and I don't mind the spelling errors. I make them all the time!

Let me stag at a guess here with your symptoms back 2 years ago.. I strongly feel autoimmune Hashimoto could be an issue here with your history.

Definately - along with the FT3 test getting done - push very hard for TPOab and TgAb test also.

You need those - with maybe an ultra sound or even an untake thyroid scan - either test will see autoimmune damage. Neither is better than the other if Hashi's is there. and a US will miss Graves entirely.

I feel you are swinging opposite of Grves and you have Hashi raging up and down swinging you hyper to hypo - not Graves at all. - but its my "patient" guess only

There is no common demoninator due to age - sorry that is wrong - but you do seem low on that.

Only presumming since no FT3 lab is on here - your low thyroid function but could be classified sub-clinical in the eyes of your doctor and they could shoot for medicine or want to re-evaluate in a couple of months.

I feel you push for the FT3 lab - redo the FT4 at that time and see where the FT3 lab is to either wearrent or disreguard treatment enitrely

TSH labs are NOT you're friend and shouldn't be used to "tell all" with thyroid if you have symptoms - even more so important. Push for poper frees and maybe antibody testing too.

No its fine. Don't worry! I have been on here all day looking through posts. I just can't wait to go see my doctor. I hope he won't turn me away and say all is well. I hate that feeling like 'what do I do now..'

Sorry.....preoccupied and brain wasnt working.
TSH does NOT look like Graves.
Graves TSH is usually around 0,05 or even less.

As for normal TSH...no-one is normal . We all have different DNA,
Everyone is different as you will soon find out.
Read through some old posts....I find them invaluable.

Okay all I have is free t4 0.83 normal range 0.71-1.8
tsh 1.66 I don't know the normal range for that

I called lap corps AND quest labs. A woman who is of 25 years of age should have a normal free t4 of 0.82-1.77. soooo looks like mine are very close to the low end at 0.83. Tell me what you think. The TSH is very normal.

I don't see the lab report posted here Henputs. Did I miss that somewhere or can you post it as a complete report on this post to view.

Post results and reference levels if you can.

Another thing - FT4 is your "converter" hormone so it is more stable in numbers and has little room to go up and down. FT4 is not the whole things and needs to have the FT3 test done to compare with.

Even though TSH is not a real thyroid panel test its nice to see it. I don't see that either for you on what you tested.

Stella, a question for you, it does seem that my free t4 is low or is it just me? The other test, the TSH seems normal, but I went to a free clinic doc and he laughed in my face basically and said I was healthy as a horse. But when I had looked into it more, looks like the free t4 at 0.83 is kinda low!!! Whats your take?

no - hyper and hypo symtpoms can mock eachother in most cases. You can't tell for sure w/out actual FT3 and FT4 labs which one you are.

You are experiencing hypo symptoms.

Stella I know those results do look low. I actually got ahold of my old doc who ran a thyroid test when I was experiencing the hyper like feelings and he is sending me my lab work. Its kinda old, but I was feeling awful then with heart palps, weight loss and insomnia. That was 2 years ago and since then I don't have heart palps and I have put on 70 lbs. AND choke on all my food. So maybe hyper to hypo, who knows but I will def. let you guys know whats going on after I talk to my doc this week, thanks for your help!!!

You need to have a TSI test done for Graves.
This will determine 100% if you have Graves.
Also you need the Free T3 done as this is the hormone that can give you hyper symptoms.
As stella said...ask for a thyroid uptake scan and ultrasound to be done....not a CT scan.

unless there is confirmation of Grave antibodies - these test definately do not point to Graves or even Hyperthyroidism.

This is low thyroid and symptoms can mock each hypo and hyper.

I think we need more medical history on other conditions and medication you may have taken to really now if thyroid is an issue here.

A cat scan would not be thyroid conclusions. Was it an uptake scan - not cat scan?

I have all your symptoms and was diagnosed with Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism.
Have you had a thyroid panel done...FT3, FT4, TSH,>
And have you been tested for Graves and Hashi's antibodies?
I think that would be your next step if you havent been tested for antibodies.
I was going from hyper to hypo every 2 weeks.....it was a time I would never want to go through again.
I had RAI (june 2008) and TT( sept, 2008) as had 3 episodes of thyroid storm in 2 weeks (atrial fibrillation) and then 3 days before RAI..cancer was picked up of the whole thyroid.
Seeing the heart issues was a problem, it was safer to do RAI first.

I think if it wasnt done, I wouldnt be here.
But Graves was traced back to 1985 so I had it for many years before someone finally said...Ahh you have Graves disease.

Get your labs done on the thyroid and also antibody testing.
