I have been diagnosed thyroid issues for a little over 20 yrs now, at first it was hyperthyroid and next hypothyroid. It seems that after several years of taking the synthroid and various other meds I am having worse issues than before I started them. Is anyone else finding this to be their case as well. Since starting these meds which at first was sythroid then levothyroxine then armour then backto sythroid, I have developed thinks like mitro valve prolapse, fibromyalgia, partial complex seizures just to name a few. However, when Istop these meds it all seems to go away. Approximately two months ago I stopped the meds again as the abdominal pains were becoming unbearable. Within 6 weeks I was back down with no energy at all (not a lot different than when I take the meds just a little worse). My dr suggested I do a heart cath since I have family history of heart issues. I went and did the pre op blood work only to have the staffcome to me and explain I needed to see an endocrinologist immediately as my TSH was 393.87 they said it was unheard of without being in a coma. I have since gone back to my endo dr. and he put me omn cytomel and levoxy. This is not working at all. I find I cannot walk a straight line on the cytomel as it makes me so dizzy headed I cannot think clear (this is on 5mg) THe levoxyl is causing such abdominal pain I cannot stand up straight does anyone have any suggestions as they say if my numbers continue to be this high I am running a risk of a heart attack, stroke and coma. All info greatly appreciated. THank You
Symptoms of adrenal insufficiency can include fatigue, weight loss, intolerance to stress, dizziness, abdominal pain, hyperpigmentation of the skin, salt cravings to name a few.
The need for magnesium is high during the early stages of adrenal insufficiency when you are under chronic stess and the adrenal glands are still able to produce stress hormones at a high rate. In the later stages of adrenal insufficiency, elevated magnesium levels can develop. Magnesium deficiency is a cause of fibromyalgia pain and seizures. Some studies suggest that magnesium deficiency may not be a result of the mitral valve prolapse but actually due to magnesium deficiency.
Adrenal insufficiency tests include cortisol, ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), aldosterone, renin, potassium, sodium, ACTH stimulation test,
CRH (corticotropin-releasing hormone) stimulation test, xrays or CT of the adrenals, 21-hydroxylase autoantibodies (21OH-Ab).
