Does this guy seem legit?

I ran across someone in North Carolina who supposedly specializes in Hashi's/hypothyroidism. He literally seems like an answer to prayer. He runs EVERYTHING. Every thyroid test, including antibodies, other metabolic things, CBC, and hormone imbalance. I requested the DVD and got a letter from an assistant or something along with the DVD today. He seems really interested in me since I'm so young. My mom's skeptical. He's a chiropractor too but he claims to have studied and trained with a doctor specializing in this stuff. He also claims he will do out of state consultations and we would have to take advantage of that as I'm in Tennessee and he's all the way across on the other side of North Carolina. How well will that really work? I don't want to jump in without being sure he's for real. And what better place to come to? :) Of course my mom could (and very likely will) say no and we would just forget about it. But it would be nice to have a backup. His name is Dr. Joe Alaimo. Here's the website. http://wilmingtonthyroid.com/   Any opinions are appreciated!

I don't think I'd touch it with a 10' pole -- most likely he's just trying to sell a bunch of stuff that you could get lots cheaper from the health food store; and most of it probably won't help anyway.

I'm always leery of anyone who touts a "cure" for Hashi/hypo and even more so if they insist that it can be done without replacement med.  We have Hashi, for Heaven's sake and the antibodies are chomping away on the old thyroid -- something has to replace those hormones when the thyroid is "dead".............once it stops working, no amount of supplements or chiropractic manipulation is going to replace them.

I'd say you should look elsewhere for help.

Yeah I noticed that when I watched the DVD last night. He's all for naturally treating Hashi's and not medicating it. He keeps repeating that it's an autoimmune thing and you have to stop that. And yes it is, but it's also killing your thyroid and meds ARE needed. At least that's my opinion...i'm thinkin a no.

I used to be an investigations officer and have worked with the Australian Federal Police and can tell you that my investigations of this guy has provided me with some answers.

There is an Alaimo Accident and Injury Treatment Center in Wilmington NC, which has chiropractors ( I hunted him down!) But for my peace of mind I would expect him to have a web page link to that, or at least the page he has now having less grammatical errors.
He appears to be a  legitimate chiropractor who has no idea on how to run a proper website, BUT here's the pinch....His claim of being able to treat the thyroid WITHOUT drugs is just whacky! Giving  Spinal Decompression  Therapy, which is his forte, is like giving soft drink to a paralysis victim and expecting them to walk again. Might make the patient feel good being stretched and pulled, but I seriously doubt that losing their money is going to 'fix' their ailing thyroids.
He probably thinks he is doing good in the world, all the while making money off people.
He has numerous sites you can look at.

there are more. Most you sign up to get free DVD's on his decompression therapy.

I am sure there are many people out there who still think the world is flat too!

I recently ran across the same type of operation here in Oregon...a chiropractor who is a thyroid expert.  I signed up on the website and was inundated with propaganda for a couple of weeks.  I didn't see any atrocities in his advertisements, but I remained skeptical.  He was holding seminars, and I was tempted to attend (for research purposes only, I'm quite happy with my endo).  My feeling is that this probably comes with a pretty hefty pricetag and probably isn't covered by most insurance.  Also, I got the impression that he was marketing supplements, etc. that he recommends.  It all seemed like a bit of overkill to me.

I looked at the site..clicked on the CONTACT and it came up with a 404 message (website lingo).
Personally I think its up to you but any website that doesnt include a phone number or address , I wont touch.
I guess it all depends on how much this all costs too as there are many scams out there on the net.
Ask questions first then decide......
Look at the 'credits' from references that have been made on the site and contact the appropriate credits (people) to see if they know of this practise as a thyroid helping one and not just Chiro.
Let us know how you go.
