Our son took the asvab for the navy and scored very well. He has decided that the marines is a better fit.  He went to sign papers and was instructed that none of the armed service would take him with hypothyroidism. He has had this dx since he was 15. The levels have always been stable and are documented. Is this true or can this by waived? Thank you for your time!

If your hypothyroidism is under control through medication and you are at the proper TSH level and are having not symptoms or other problems, I can not imagine there would be any reason why you could not join the Marines.  There are millions of people who are hypothyroid but are just fine with medication.  I would simply inquire if there are any restrictions because you are Dx with hypo.
