Armour versus synthroid

My friend has hypothyroidism and has a family history of others in family not responding to synthroid, only to armour.  she is currently at 0.275 mcg and is still showing low thyroid levels.  She is having terrible hot flashes and sweats.  Her doctor refuses to try her on armour even for a month to see if she responds to it.  Is 0.275 a pretty high dose?  How can she get her doctor to listen to her or how can we find a doctor who will give her the armour?  We live in Portland, Or.

Thanks for any advice or tips you can offer.

Maggie

Keep looking. I am on 50mg and showing low levels. They refuse me as well. My doctor isn't against it but wants me to see the specialist first.

There is an above average percentage of people who try Synthroid and continue to feel bad and then go on Armour and feel much better.

The doctor she has now is A-typical in denying Armour treatment.

Many go the a google search under Top Thyroid Doctor directory and pull up the state where they live.

These listings are specifically designed for patients to be treated under Armour therapy.

She might have to travel - but it is worth it.
