minocycline acne meds and low thyroid result

I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.5 and his ft4 was normal but they didn't test for ft3 and he came back low b12......so I am wondering if the minocycline did this.....this all started when he started taking these meds.

Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption.  Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects.

Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves.  Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).

Hyperpigmentation may take several months to years to resolve after discontinuation of minocycline however pigmentation may never completely disappear.  The use of antioxidants has showed significant protection against pigment formation.
