Is my thyriod dosage correct?

Hi,
I am raj from Bangalore india aged 42 yrs. I was diagonised thyriod problem in October 2008. The results then were T3 = 1.3, T4 = 8.3, TSH = 6.5. My doctor advised not to use any medicines and do some diet restrictions and exersises. My lipid profile also shown Type IV Hyper liproprotereinaemia.  I tried to do some exercises and diet control but after 9 months i found my reading in July 2009 as T3 = 0.75, T4 = 4.5, TSH = 48.90. Even all my cholesterol levels also increased. Doctor has now advised for Thyronorm 100mcg daily one in the morning and Tab. Modlip-F (Atrovastin and fenofibrate tablet) one at night. I had undergone tests again in  September after using the above tablets for 2 monts. My current readings are as follows: T3 = 0.95, T4 = 10.5, TSH = 3.10. And all my chlesterol levels are perfectly well within the limits. Now my doctor has advised to continue with Thyronorm 100mcg  daily and Modlip-F on alternative days.

I have developed some abdominal pain during last few days and my doctor has said this is not because of these tablets or there is no overdosage of tablets. I have also developed sometimes errectile dyfunction. I never has such problem in the past anytime. I really do not know if this is because of my work loads or stress in life or general fear. My doctor says there is no problem with me at all.Even my BP is normal. Can anyone suggest me if everything is alright with me? are my dosages going correct?  is it that i am just undergoing some nerverssness? pls advise.

It is very hard to pinpoint all the problems that can be traced to being hypo, or if you would have had that problem if you weren't hypo. But in general, my personal opinion, is that many weird problems and symptoms, are more easily explained when it turns out that the owner of the problem(s) is hypo. Before I found out I was hypo, I was very active and energetic, but I still at that time wondered about a few things that did not feel right. For example back pain. Now looking back, most if not all of those things seem explainable and related to hypothyroid. Abdominal pain will most likely go away, erectal function could be lower permanently, but you should function better if medicined right, it could come and go in periods. Its hard to say, this is very psycological related as well.

Hi,
After i starting using thyronorm 100mcg i am now feeling better in other aspects. I used to snor a lot and used to get into sleep very fast sitting in a sofa itself. Now i feel somewhat active. But as i mentioned i am facing the two problems as mentioned earlier. Do you think  the other two problems are temporary or do they need any medications?

Hi,

tsh of 3.1 is still a little high.  you may benefit from a slightly higher dose of levothyroxine.  And Yes, hypo can cause erectile dysfunction.

You should be testing FT3 and FT4, not T3 and T4.  Also target for these is in the upper half of the reference range.  TSH target is usually 1-2.  Actual should also be adjusted on how you feel.

Hi,
It seems to me that you are clearly hypo, and that the medication you are given is working. It also seems that you maybe caught yourself becoming hypo in an early stage, meaning you have to think yourself how you feel now compared to one year ago. Did you ever have any of the standard hypo symptoms?
Even if you are medicined right, I think hypothyroidism will give you problems some way or another. Erectile dysfunction and abdominal pain could easily be some of the symptoms. I have had all kinds of strange symptoms the last year, I also discovered I was hypo in october 2008. Still trying to get my old life back.
I am now on daily 125 mg synthetic T4. (Levothyroxin) Send me a message if you want to discuss further.
Also please post the "normal" levels when you post numbers, it makes it easier to evaluate.

I have never tried or heard of the Modlip-F medication, do you feel any effect and if yes, what?
