Is this normal? 2 questions

I've just been diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroid.  I have no symptoms that I am aware of.  Sleepnessless,
yes, definitely, but I've always been a poor sleeper. And anxiety, yes, but life is very anxiety-provoking these days:0).  My endo has started me on methimazole, 30 mg once a day.  Is that a high dosage?

I've been on the methimazole 5 days now.  I feel ...weird! Don't know how to describe it? Almost as though I'm sleep-walking? Not sick, but no desire to do anything (the OPPOSITE of my normal personality).  Is this to be expected? Will it last?
I guess I'm feeling calmer than usual, but calm to the point of catatonic:0).  I'm also experiencing mild nasuea.
Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Kristina, thak you SO much for the feedback.  I guess I should talk to the endo.  He is the only decent one in my area, and very, very busy, but I'll try to get an appointment. (My primary physician, whom I've known for many years and trust implicitly, recommended him highly, otherwise I'd be more sceptical of his prescribed dosage at this point).

Knocking hard on wood, the nasueau seems to have passed, so perhaps it was just my initial reaction to the med (fingers fervently crossed).

But I hear you on treating by symptom with subclimical hyper, and I didn't have any of which I was aware.  But I do actually feel much better today than yesterday (today is my 7th day on the meth) so I'm crossing my fingers hard, and knocking on wood that perhaps my extreme sleeplessness and anxiety were indeed due to the thyroid problem.
And no, no thyroid antibody tests yet.  He just told me to take the med for 6 weeks, get more bloodwork done, and come back to see him.
Do you live in New Zealand?!?!? How cool!! I wish you the very best of luck with your upcoming surgery, I know that is always frightening.
Thank you again so very much for your feedback!

"I gather that they treat by symptom with hyperthyroidism."  Sorry, I meant to say they treat by symptom with SUBclinical hyperthyroidism

Carbomazole is the generic brand in New Zealand.

I've been prescribed carbomazole (NZ generic for methimazole) for sub-clinical hyperthyroidism.

My Endo saw me in July and didn't treat me because I was asymptomatic (apart from sleeplessness which I'm taking a med for).

However my surgeon wants me taking 5 mg twice daily carbomazole prior to an operation for subtotal thyroidectomy  (I have a toxic nodule that is making me hyper); The Endo rang and suggested to me to take half that amount.  My local Dr put me on beta-blockers for slightly racing heart and palpitations 3 weeks ago, so it seems I'm becoming more symptomatic after being subclinical hyper for almost a year.
I have had liver problems (recovered)) and they're hoping a small dose will do it for me.

I gather that they treat by symptom with hyperthyroidism. The chemist told me that some people feel 'better' in about 5 days.  I've read that it generally (depending on the patient etc) works within 10-20 days.

I'm only guessing but you may be on too high a dose or having a slight reaction to the meds.  I know one of the 'normal' sx's can be nausea.   I think it would pay to make an appointment to get it checked and ask if you can lower the daily dose.  Sorry I can't give you my personal experience, as I'm starting them tomorrow (just had blood tests today).

Did you get thyroid antibody tests;  did they find out what was causing the hyper?  I'm glad to here you're calmer (a little jealous even lol),

My TSH is .03 (FT3 and FT4 normal) Antibodies fine, so just have to rid myself of the nodule.   Good luck - let us know how you got on.

Thank you so much for your help!   My TSH , 3rd generation,  was .02  (normal range is .40 - 4.50). My other thyroid readings were normal. I just had a uptake scan done, and the doctor said I have subclinical hyperthyroid, based on those tests.  I hope that answers your question, I am very new to this.  Thanks again, I really appreciate your response.

If you will please post your thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be better able to respond.
