Hypothyroidism problems

Does anyone have any helpful hints to help fight hair loss?  I am having bad hypo symptoms and am fighting with my doctor regarding treatment.  One symptom is that my hair is falling out.  My part is getting wider and wider.  I am already overweight.  Bald would not make a very pretty package. Are there any supplements or at home remedies to help battle this problem until I get my thyroid hormones stable?  Will it grow back if I get everything in good working order? Also i recently had lab work done and they came back within normal range, so i had to get a thyroid scan done and they came back with 2 cold nodules on my upper left thyroid lobe. I'm hoping and praying thats not anything to worry about I already have enough problems with my condition and trying to get a doctor to listen and help. Please anyone if you have any solutions or thoughts they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many variables that it is totally inadequate to use as a diagnostic for thyroid.  At best it is an indicator to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms, and also levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4.

Your Free T3 is too low in the range.  The range is far too broad since it has never been revised like done for TSH over 8 years ago.  If the data base for Free T4 were purged of suspect hypo patients and the limits recalculated like done for TSH, I have estimated that the new range would be more like 3.2 - 4.3.  In my opinion that is the reason we hear from so many members with Free T3 in the low end of the range and they have hypo symptoms.

I was in that situation myself for over 25 years.  I was taking 200 mcg of Synthroid, yet had lingering hypo symptoms, even with a .05 TSH and a 1.50 FT4.    After learning of the importance of Free T3 and getting mine tested,  I found it very low in the range.  The doctor switched me to a T4/T3 combo type med and after some tweaking, I now feel best ever.

If you haven't read the link I gave you that talks about clinical treatment, please do so.  Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results.

I have no experience with and very little info about nodules.  I did find this in the Forum archives.

Although the cause of most thyroid nodules is unknown, some risk factors for developing nodules include a family history of benign thyroid nodules, and pre-existing thyroid disease (e.g. Hashimoto's thyroiditis).
The nodules are also present in enlarged thyroid gland among older people living in iodine deficient areas.

Thank you so much for responding back so quick. I really appreciate your feedback. also do you know any thing about cold nodules, and as going back to the normal range lab results, do you know if they have anything to do with them?

Just because your thyroid test results are somewhere within the so-called "normal" range does not mean that is adequate for YOU.  The ranges are far too broad for that to be the case.

A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4, as necessary to relieve symptoms.  Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results.  I think you will get some good info from this link to a letter written by a good thyroid doctor for patients that he consults with from a distance.  The letter is written for the PCP of the patient to help guide treatment.

Sounds like you need a new thyroid doctor.  If you will tell us your location, perhaps a member can recommend one based on personal experience.
